Photo Flash: Theatre at the Center Presents THE WIZJuly 8, 2011The Broadway smash hit musical THE WIZ, with book by William F. Brown and music by Charlie Smalls, will blow audiences away July 7 through August 7, 2011 at Theatre at the Center, 1040 Ridge Road, Munster, Indiana. The production will open Sunday, July 10 at 7 p.m. Stacey Flaster will direct and choreograph. THE WIZ first opened on Broadway in 1975 and ran for four years (1600 performances). It made a historic footprint as the first large-scale big-budget musical featuring an all-African American cast. THE WIZ won seven Tony Awards including Best Musical and was produced in 1978 by Motown/Universal as a film starring Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, Lena Horne, and Richard Pryor.
Fahy, Durand Join Cast of UNAUTHORIZED AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF SAMANTHA BROWN at GoodspeedJuly 8, 2011Fresh from their hit Broadway turns, Meghann Fahy (Next to Normal) and Andrew Durand (Spring Awakening) join the cast of The Unauthorized Autobiography of Samantha Brown. Talkin' Broadway calls the show's writing team of Kait Kerrigan and Brian Lowdermilk 'the most important young writers in musical theatre today.' This original musical for Broadway's next generation will run from August 4 through 28, 2011 at The Norma Terris Theatre in Chester, Conn., Goodspeed's home for developing new works.
Hartford Children's Theatre Wins 2 2010-2011 National Youth Theatre AwardsJuly 8, 2011Hartford Children's Theatre has won two 2010-2011 National Youth Theatre Awards and an additional three nominations. The sixth annual National Youth Theatre Awards honor outstanding work by young performers in the arts. More than 200 productions were considered for the awards, including shows from more than 100 theatres in more than 50 cities spanning 12 states. A limited number of adult performers were also recognized for their performances in productions for young audiences.

The hot jazz influenced musical is Conceived by Larry Dean Harris; with a Book by Martin Casella and Larry Dean Harris; Lyrics by Mark Winkler; Music by Phillp Swann; with Additional Music by Jim Andron, Michael Cruz, Marilyn Harris, Emilio Palame, Larry Steelman. It is directed by Sharon Rosen with choreography by Marc Kimelman. The musical is produced by Mary's Hideaway, LLC. The design team, cast and opening will soon be announced.
'New Orleans Down the Hatch' Returns to K-Joe's 7/15-7/23July 8, 2011Opening at K-Joe's restaurant in the French Quarter July 15, New Orleans Down the Hatch: A Cabaret in Two Cocktails celebrates the history of New Orleans through an evening of song and tasty cocktails. The show, nominated for the Big Easy Award for Best Cabaret in 2010, stars two Running With Scissors regulars: Big Easy Theatre Person of the Year Bob Edes and New Orleans culinary historian Elizabeth Pearce. Tinkling the ivories, you'll find the lovely and talented pianist Jim Walpole.
Stage Left Theatre Presents Chicago Premiere of FARRAGUT NORTH, Opens 9/3July 8, 2011Stage Left Theatre announces the upcoming Chicago Premiere of Farragut North written by Beau Willimon and directed by Artistic Director Vance Smith.
