The Los Angeles Master Chorale - the renowned resident choir of Walt Disney Concert Hall led by Music Director Grant Gershon - and KUSC (91.5 FM) - one of the largest and most listened to classical radio stations in the country - have announced a two-year broadcast partnership in which 14 of the acclaimed choir's Disney Hall concerts from the 2009|10, 2010|11 and 2011|12 seasons will air in two seven-week series, entitled "The LA Master Chorale in Concert," with the first series launching Sunday, December 19, 2010 and running through January 30, 2010. The second series is slated for broadcast December 18, 2011 through January 29, 2012. The two-hour weekly radio program, which runs from 4-6 PM, is designed to showcase the choir's versatility and wide-ranging repertoire. KUSC broadcasts of the Los Angeles Master Chorale are supported, in part, by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors through the Los Angeles County Arts Commission.

"We are thrilled to be able to showcase the glorious sound and exceptional repertoire of the LA Master Chorale on KUSC's airwaves," says KUSC Program Director Gail Eichenthal. "The choir plays a unique role in L.A.'s musical community and beyond, and its splendid 'voice' will greatly enhance our broadcast schedule.

Gershon, who has personally selected from three seasons worth of performances the slate of concerts to be featured on the broadcast, states, "KUSC reaches more than 700,000 listeners per week, which enables the Chorale to reach a much broader base of music lovers with its music. It's exciting to take our music outside our concert hall and onto the airwaves as part of our 'on the stage, online and on the air' initiative to connect with a wider segment of the population."

The series opens December 19, 2010, 4 pm, with a broadcast of the Chorale's holiday concert from last season, with Gershon conducting Midnight Mass for Christmas Eve, a charming French Baroque work by Marc-Antoine Charpentier; Ralph Vaughan Williams' climactic Fantasia on Christmas Carols for organ, chorus and baritone soloist, featuring Chorale member Abdiel Gonzalez, baritone; and Conrad Susa's A Christmas Garland, a glorious fanfare for brass and organ, with organist John West. In addition, former LAMC Assistant Conductor Ariel Quintana conducts Ariel Ramirez's captivating Navidad Nuestra, featuring guest ensemble Huayucaltia, acclaimed for its compelling ethno-Latin grooves. (A full list of concerts to be broadcast is included below.)
