CENTERSTAGE's Upcoming Raisin Cycle Honored with NEA Grant and Edgerton Award

National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Chairman Rocco Landesman announced Wednesday that CENTERSTAGE is one of 832 non-profit organizations nationwide to receive an NEA Art Works grant for its Spring 2013 Raisin Cycle. The announcement comes on the heels of CENTERSTAGE Artistic Director Kwame Kwei-Armah's own Beneatha's Place, penned for the Cycle, receiving the Edgerton New American Play Award.

Usually, she was a polite, pampered child, but ever since her father threw a Christmas Eve party for all of the children in the city, she behaved like the costume she was wearing. In fact, all of the children were behaving like the costumes dictated. Paupers were princes and the privileged performed farm chores.

Director Lila Neugebauer returns to the Bay Area to stage this new script on the intimate Thrust Stage. Troublemaker starts previews on January 4, opens January 9, and runs through February 3, 2013. MARC ACITO's new play with music or monological, HOW I PAID FOR COLLEGE is set to premiere at THE HUB THEATRE on December 7, 2012. The production features ALEX BRIGHTMAN in a one man tour-de-force, and is directed by The Hub's Artistic Director, HELEN PAFUMI. Inspired by his own misspent youth, Acito describes the story as 'just true enough to be embarrassing to my family.' Published in 2004, Acito's novel How I Paid for College won the Ken Kesey Award for Fiction and was hailed as a New York Times 'Editors' Choice.'
