MEASURE FOR MEASURE Opens in the Park Tonight!June 30, 2011The Public Theater began previews June 6 for the 2011 Shakespeare in the Park summer season featuring MEASURE FOR MEASURE, directed by David Esbjornson, and ALL'S WELL THAT ENDS WELL, directed by Daniel Sullivan. The two shows will run in repertory with the same company of actors through Saturday, July 30 at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park. On June 25, ALL'S WELL THAT ENDS WELL opened to favorable notices and tonight, June 30, MEASURE FOR MEASURE celebrates its official opening night.

Harry Connick Jr.-Led ON A CLEAR DAY YOU CAN SEE FOREVER to Play St. James Theatre; Opens Dec. 11, 2011June 29, 2011Grammy and Emmy Award winner, Tony Award nominee and multi-platinum recording artist Harry Connick, Jr. will star in a reimagined production of ON A CLEAR DAY YOU CAN SEE FOREVER opening fall 2011 on Broadway at a theatre to be announced. The delightful Tony Award nominated score by Burton Lane (music) and Alan Jay Lerner (lyrics) is enhanced by classics from their film scores for On A Clear Day You Can See Forever (1970) and Royal Wedding (1951). With a new book by Peter Parnell based on the original book by Alan Jay Lerner, the musical is reconceived and directed by Tony Award winner Michael Mayer. Bernadette Peters, Jan Maxwell, Danny Burstein & Ron Raines to Lead FOLLIES to Broadway!June 29, 2011As previously announced, The Kennedy Center's all-new, critically-acclaimed production of James Goldman and Stephen Sondheim's FOLLIES will transfer to Broadway this summer. FOLLIES will play a limited engagement at the Marquis Theatre, with performances beginning on August 7. It has just been announced that from the Kennedy Center all-star production, Bernadette Peters, Jan Maxwell, Danny Burstein and Ron Raines will be transferring with the production. Other members of the Broadway company will be announced shortly.
JERSEY BOYS Celebrates 2 Years in AustraliaJune 29, 2011Smash hit multi-award winning musical JERSEY BOYS - The Story of Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons celebrates two years in Australia on Thursday 7 July. JERSEY BOYS opened in July 2009 in Melbourne and played for 13 months before transferring to Sydney's Theatre Royal opening in September last year. 900,000 people have now seen the show in Australia.

HAIR Celebrates Fans with Free Ticket Giveaway July 5!June 29, 2011New York's Public Theater announced today that the Tony Award-winning revival of HAIR: The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical, which returns to Broadway for a 10-week only ‘Summer of Love' run, is going back to its free theatre roots by giving away 100 tickets for the show's first performance on Tuesday, July 5th to the first 100 lucky fans in line at the St. James Theatre. Tickets (1 per person) will be distributed at 1:00 PM on July 5. Fans waiting in line are encouraged to dress in their best HAIR inspired hippie attire; just before tickets are distributed at 1:00 PM, cast members will select the best dressed male and female winners, who will win a walk-on role in a future performance of HAIR, along with five tickets so that their family and friends can watch them join the tribe. Tickets may be anywhere in the theatre and are non-transferrable. HAIR will officially open at the St. James Theatre on Wednesday, July 13th and play through September 10, 2011.
STICK FLY Heads to Broadway Next Season Produced by Alicia Keys; Kenny Leon HelmsJune 27, 2011The New York Times has announced that Lydia R. Diamond's STICK FLY will head to Broadway next season, produced by Grammy-winning superstar Alicia Keys, Reuben Cannon and Nelle Nugent. The show will be directed by Kenny Leon (Fences) and begin previews at the Lyceum Theatre on November 18, 2011. Opening night is scheduled for December 8. Casting announcements are forthcoming.

Julie Taymor to Helm First Production in New Venue for Theatre for a New Audience, 2013June 24, 2011Today, Theatre for a New Audience broke ground on its new home in a city-owned parking lot in the growing BAM Cultural District, located at 262 Ashland Place bet Lafayette Avenue and Fulton Street in Brooklyn. Set to open in April 2013, the Hugh Hardy-designed, 27,500-square-foot building will house a 3-level 299-seat theatre, a rehearsal room, public lobby and various supporting spaces, providing a state-of-the-art venue for the theater company's interpretations of Shakespeare and classical drama. It will be the first permanent residence for the 32-year-old theatre company, the first classical theatre built in New York City in more than four decades and only the second new theatre to be built from the ground up in Brooklyn in more than 50 years.
