STAGE TUBE: Conan Parodies of SPIDEY PersistDecember 8, 2010As viewers and now non-viewers alike know, Conan O'Brien has enjoyed parodying Julie Taymor's production of SPIDER-MAN regularly on his late night show. In fact, as BroadwayWorld has previously reported, the team behind the Broadway musical SPIDER-MAN hasn't been amused by the constant late-night jokes about the show and recently sent bouquet of flowers from the production which said, 'We hope you enjoy the flowers. It was cheaper than a cease-and-desist.'
GYPSY OF THE YEAR Raises 3.7+ Million for BC/EFA; PROMISES, JERSEY BOYS Lead Winners Board!December 7, 2010Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS has just wrapped the 22nd Annual GYPSY OF THE YEAR COMPETITION at the New Amsterdam Theatre. The competition began yesterday, December 6. The proceeds from the event, a dazzling once-a-year variety show filled with lavish musical numbers, original skits and Broadway stars, will benefit BC/EFA. This year's GYPSY OF THE YEAR was hosted by Broadway personality Seth Rudetsky ('Seth's Big Fat Broadway' on Sirius/XM Satellite Radio).
The results are in and the grand total raised for BC/EFA amongst Broadway, Off-Broadway and touring shows is $3,776,720!
Chris Colfer to Star in Own Film, Struck By LightningDecember 8, 2010Variety reports today that GLEE star Chris Colfer will be making his film debut in Struck by Lightning, a comedy produced by David Permut ('Youth in Revolt'). Colfer wrote the script for the film, which will go into production next summer with a director to be announced. No other casting details have been released.
