The New National Pastime Theater Presents BEND IN THE ROAD, 5/4-6/9

After nearly twenty years in the old speakeasy, The National Pastime Theater has changed location and unveils Chicago's newest theatrical venue in the Uptown neighborhood with another world premiere custom crafted for NPT's style. In 1994 Michael Sokoloff wrote Red Dog Moon for The National Pastime Theater to open our season in its first permanent home. The inaugural production in its new theatrical venue reunites NPT's Founder and Artistic Director Laurence Bryan and NPT resident playwright Michael Sokoloff in the world premier of A Bend in the Road, a tale of Westward expansion.

ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER stars Broadway veteran Benjamin Walker as the title role. The film is set to open in theaters on June 22nd from 20th Century Fox. The horror, thriller film, directed by Timur Bekmambetov, also stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Dominic Cooper, Rufus Sewell, Alan Tudyk, Anthony Mackie, Jimmi Simpson, Jaqueline Fleming and Robin McLeavy. According to the Tokyo Graph, actress Yonekura Ryoko will join the hit revival of John Kander, Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse's Tony Award-winning musical CHICAGO this July. She is set to star as Roxy Hart, making her the first Japanese woman to star on Broadway since the 1958 production of Flower Drum Song starring Nancy Umeki. Ryoko will also be the first Japanese performer to portray a lead American character in a long-running Broadway musical.

The South Florida community is invited to celebrate the achievements of the talented theater professionals in the region at the 36th Annual Carbonell Awards on Monday, April 2, 2012, at 7:30 p.m. in the Amaturo Theater, at Broward Center for the Performing Arts, 201 S.W. 5th Ave., Fort Lauderdale. Tickets in advance are $25 with $20 tickets available for groups of 10 or more, $35 at the door. Tickets are available at the Broward Center's box office or by emailing carbexec@aol.com or visiting www.browardcenter.org. This award ceremony will feature performances from each of the productions nominated for Best Musical in 2011.

42nd Street Moon, the company that presents intimate productions of uncommon musicals, concludes its 2011-12 season with a journey to Greece and Crete for the Kander and Ebb classic, ZORBA. Based on the book Zorba the Greek by Nikos Kazantzakis, this musical is a salute to the spirit of Greece, where Zorba celebrates life, but also lost love, heartbreak and death. Three low-priced previews run May 2, 3 and 4, with the Opening on Saturday May 5 at 6 pm. The show will run through May 20.

Patina Miller who originated the role of Deloris Van Cartier will play her final performance in SISTER ACT tonight, March 18th. Miller made her Broadway debut in the production and was nominated for a Tony and Oliver award. As previously announced, actress Raven-Symone will replace her, beginning performances on March 27th. SISTER ACT, which will celebrate its one-year Anniversary on Broadway on April 20, is playing at the Broadway Theater.

NEWSIES is now in previews at Broadway's Nederlander Theatre. It will play a strictly limited 101 performance run following its critically-hailed run at Paper Mill Playhouse in fall 2011. The musical, featuring a score by eight-time Academy Award® winner Alan Menken (Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Sister Act) and Jack Feldman, and a book by four-time Tony Award® winner Harvey Fierstein (La Cage aux Folles, Torch Song Trilogy), will open on March 29th; the final performance is scheduled for June 10
