La Jolla Playhouse announced today an exciting new production for its 2010/11 subscription season: the world premiere musical Little Miss Sunshine. The Tony Award-winning creative team of composer/lyricist William Finn and writer/director James Lapine, who previously collaborated on the Tony Award-winning musicals Falsettos and The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, will bring their latest project to the Playhouse. The production will run February 15 - March 27, 2011 in the Mandell Weiss Theatre.

[title of show] is a musical about two guys named Jeff and Hunter by two nobodies named Jeff and Hunter.In 2004, the real Jeff and Hunter decided to enter the inaugural New York Music Theatre Festival (NYMF). The problem was, they didn't have a musical. With a deadline set, three weeks later they entered [title of show], named after the first line in the festival application form. Following its debut at NYMF, [title of show] enjoyed an acclaimed run at the Vineyard Theater Off-Broadway in 2006, and the release of an Original Cast Album that same year. They fulfilled their Broadway aspirations July 2008, where [title of show] ran for over 100 performances starring the writers themselves. The Magnormos season is the first production outside of the USA.

Concluding the 2009-2010 Emerson Stage season is Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's beloved musical, Into the Woods. Directed by Scott LaFeber, the production played the Cutler Majestic Theatre April 22-24.

The New Theatre Project is a professional production company with the mission to create new plays, restore established plays for a new audience, explore newer and largely undiscovered texts and present plays that created new theatrical revolutions. TNTP is committed to ensemble work that uses non-traditional, non-hierarchical ways of organization to produce theatre.

Celebrating 50 years of Motown, the New Cardiff Theatre will close its production of DANCING IN THE STREETS on May 1st. The production began performances at the theatre on April 26th, for a limited engagement.

Barbara Cook's Spotlight Series at Washington DC's Kennedy Center brought Tony Award-Winner, Laura Benanti to it's Terrace Theatre on Friday night. The series has presented a more intimate experience with stars such as Jane Krakowski, Christine Ebersole and Karen Akers and will feature husband and wife team, Jessica Molaskey and John Pizzarelli on June 4th of this year.

In a recent interview with the associated press, rock legend Roger Waters of the band Pink Floyd discussed the plans of bringing the band's most celebrated album, 'The Wall,' to a Broadway stage. Waters discussed the progress the show is making, as well as his opinions of the most recent rock album to make it to Broadway, AMERICAN IDIOT.

When 'Idol' gets down to the top six, each week is a shocker. With so few contestants left, it is nearly impossible to predict who will head home each week and, at this point in the competition, it really feels as though it's anyone's game. Tonight featured a slew of performances and was the first real reminder of how close we are to finding a winner of 'American Idol' season nine.

Tonight, 'Idol' saw the return of Shania Twain, who joined the audition process in Chicago, as the contestants sang from her vast catalog of songs. Twain is primarily a country artist, which resulted in a marked change for some of the contestants. The majority of the themes thus far have fit nicely into the pop genre and, while Twain's songs are definitely pop, the country influence allowed us to see the versatility of the performers as they tackled a new challenge.

With funding from the Station North Arts and Entertainment District Second Saturdays, the Strand Theater Company will produce an evening of staged readings of six 10-minute plays written by members of the Playwrights Group of Baltimore and performed by local actors on Saturday, May 8, at 7:30 p.m. This event is free and open to the public on a first-come, first-served basis; donations are accepted.

The San Francisco production of the smash hit musical WICKED will play its final performance on Sunday, September 5, 2010, ending its record-breaking run at the Orpheum Theatre. Tickets are now on sale for all performances through September 5th. Upon closing, WICKED will have played 660 performances and 12 previews.

The campy comedy 'Psycho Beach Party' by Charles Busch will be performed at the Newnan Community Theatre Company this summer. The play is a fun spoof of 1960s beach movies with a slight Hitchcock twist.

Edmund Gaynes has announced the new comedy Hebrew School Dropout, Or: How I Converted from Judaism to Catholicism and Back to Judaism AND Lost Those Stubborn Last 10 Pounds!, by Dave Konig, the three-time Emmy Award winning comedian. Performances will begin April 24th at Actors Temple Theatre (339 West 47th Street, between 8th and 9th Avenues). Opening Night is set for May 19th. Pamela Hall directs.

During a recent interview, Broadway star Alicia Silverstone discussed the challenges of bringing the role from LA to Broadway. Notably, Silverstone said she attempted to wipe the slate clean for the role, as if she had never performed the role before.
