It's officially summer come June and this summer season promises to be an active one at the Frist Center. Next month kicks off with the opening of Metamorphoses: Drawings by Erin Anfinson, Kristi Hargrove, Mark Hosford, and Chris Scarborough in the Conte Community Arts Gallery, and is shortly followed by the opening of Constable: Oil Sketches from the Victoria and Albert Museum on June 22. The Frist has collaborated with Watkins College on an quilting workshop with edgy quilter Ben Venom and the second installment of Frist Fridays on June 29th features Sam Bush with special guest Lera Lynn.

Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater's Artistic Director Molly Smith has announced that this July 2012 D.C.-area arts manager and artist David Snider will become the company's Director of Artistic Programming. Snider will be leaving Young Playwrights' Theater (YPT), where he has served since 2005 as producing artistic director and CEO, to bring his multi-faceted, award-winning talents to the artistic team of Arena Stage.

Richard Kind revealed he will be leading the Hollywood Bowl's THE PRODUCERS this July on the Kevin Pollak's Chat Show on Saturday. No casting has been announced officially by the production, but when asked if the engagement was set in stone, Kind said 'I think so'.

Punk/pop artist/upstart MATT TOKA will release a self-titled EP through Warner Bros. Records on June 12th. The six-track EP includes the studio versions of previous YouTube-only tracks '666' and 'Ode To My Family,' as well as 'Say10,' which is currently available via all digital retailers. The EP will be released physically and digitally - the digital version includes lyric videos for two tracks, '666' and 'Get Money.'

Cortland Repertory Theatre's 2011 production of the musical Chicago "razzle dazzled 'em" at the Syracuse Area Live Theatre (SALT) Awards, winning in two out of the three Summer Production categories. The awards were presented on Sunday, May 20 at the Palace Theatre in Syracuse. Hosted by the Syracuse New Times, the SALT Awards recognize professional, summer and community theatres, each in their own categories.

Sideshow Theatre Company delves into the reality and fantasy of one of America's most notorious serial killers, in the world premiere of Chicago playwright Calamity West's The Gacy Play. Developed with Sideshow over two and a half years, West's play looks under the floorboards of a nondescript suburban home, and reveals the many ghosts hiding underneath. The Gacy Play opens June 28 and runs through July 29, performing at Theater Wit at 1229 W Belmont Ave.

The last production of the American Repertory Theater of WNY 2011-12 season features the annual Local Playwrights One-Act Showcase, on May 24 to June 2 at Buffalo East, 1410 Main Street, Buffalo.
