  • Oivia Newton-John Meet & Grease, Interview & Book Review - This was one of the longest pieces I have ever written, where I combined a review of a show, a celebrity interview, and a review of a book the celebrity had written. Readers told me it took them down Memory Lane with fond glances back at Olivia's illustrious career. In working on several past projects with Olivia, this article was a tribute to her and a culmination of her influence on my life and career. This was the most emotional article I have written, and it would be the last time I got to see Olivia before she passed away.

Cabaret is a 1966 musical with music by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb, and book by Joe Masteroff. The original Broadway production became such a hit it inspired several productions and revivals in New York and premiered in London's West End in 1968. Cabaret, the film, was produced in 1972, directed by Bob Fosse, and starred Liza Minnelli, Michael York, and Joel Grey. The film is particularly known for Liza Minnelli's rendition of 'Cabaret', a song she would come to sing in concert halls worldwide. It became her trademark.

Newsies is Disney's fictional account of the actual Newsboys Strike of 1899 where paper New York hawkers, as they were called, banned together and formed their own so-called 'union' to strike in protest of their distribution centers whose publishers raised the cost of the newspapers they bought and sold in Manhattan in order to earn a living. The 1992 Disney film starring Christian Bale was not a commercial success although the film carried a large home base audience, making it a cult classic. The 2012 Broadway musical version, book by Harvey Fierstein and starring Jeremy Jordan met with more acclaim. Any ensemble attempting to produce this high energy, fast-paced, testosterone-packed production better have their act together in more ways than one. Manatee Performing Arts Center came prepared and delivered.

Asolo Repertory Theatre hits a home run bringing this re-imagined and inventive production to its stage. The Canadian theater and television team of Craig Francis and Rick Miller who staged their version of 'Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea' last year is the talent behind the re-telling of this classic children's story.
