CBC News has reported that there's a new kid on the block in Canada - the National English Theatre Company will launch it's first show, A Christmas Carol, on December 15. An offshoot of the National Arts Centre, the National English Theatre Co is the 'first English theatre company formed at the cente in 25 years.'

In 2006, Miami's Coconut Grove Playhouse dimmed it's lights for the seemingly last time as they shut down due to the more than $4 million in debt they had accured. Now, however, GableStage has stepped in to once again give this historic playhouse life, according to a report in the Miami Herald.

Aunjanue Ellis, most recently seen on Broadway in Lincoln Center's 2009 revival of JOE TURNER'S COME AND GONE, will have a recurring role on CBS' The Mentalist, with her first appearance tentatively scheduled for April. The Mentalist airs on CBS, Thursdays at 10pm EST.

A Little New Music, a new concert, will debut Tuesday, December 8 at 9:30pm at the Laurie Beechman Theatre. The concert, directed by Eve Rybnick and featuring musical direction by Zak Sandler, stars Natalie Bradshaw, Steven Booth, Jaclyn Huberman, Felicia Ricci, James Sasser, Justin Sayre, and Nick Spangler. The Recording Academy announced the newest additions to its GRAMMY Hall Of Fame, adding 25 recordings to a timeless list that now includes 851 titles. The Hall Of Fame serves as a celebration and reminder of the triumphs and achievements of the recording arts. Selections are drawn from all categories of music, acknowledging the diversity of musical expression for which The Recording Academy has become renowned. The list and recordings now reside as a collection on display at the GRAMMY Museum.

Ellen Stewart, founder and artistic director of the East Village's La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club, has long been deemed the heart and soul of the theatre space. Over the decades since opening La MaMa in 1961, she has been the main presence in the club and chief supporter of its artisits. She has lived by the motto that everyone who does a play at La MaMa is now part of the family.

Goodspeed Musicals, the only two-time Tony Award winning theatre in the country, has announced Band Geeks!, a new musical, that has been confirmed for a spring production at The Norma Terris Theatre. The smash hit from Goodspeed's 2009 Festival of New Artists, this feel-good musical comedy will run from May 13 through June 6, 2010.

Ralph Miller, owner of the Bucks County Playhouse, is facing some financial difficulties at the moment. He has made one sole mortgage payment in over a year, and has declared bankruptcy to avoid selling the playhouse in August. Similar stories are appearing across the country as owners struggle to maintain their businesses in this economy, but Miller's case seems a bit more complicated than that: this is his third bankruptcy since 1992.

More than 13 West End theatres - some big, some small - met yesterday to discuss taking part in London's first city-wide fringe arts festival. The London Festival Fringe is set to explode onto the capital's cultural scene from 6 - 30 August 2010 (which happen to be the same dates the Edinburgh Festival Fringe has previously announced for 2010).

The Irish Tenors - Finbar Wright, Anthony Kearns, and Karl Scully - will bring their special holiday concert to the Aronoff Center's Procter & Gamble Hall on Saturday, December 12, 2009 at 8:00 PM. The Irish Tenors' holiday tribute to the season is a blend of traditional carols and classic Irish ballads. The concert is part of the Cincinnati Arts Association's 2009-10 Season of 'Classic Nights Out.'
