Olga Borodina to Perform as Amneris in Tonight's Performance of AIDA at the Metropolitan Opera, 10/21

Olga Borodina will sing Amneris in this evening's performance of Aida at the Metropolitan Opera, replacing Dolora Zajick, who is ill. Zajick is still scheduled for performances on October 24, 29, November 2 and 6. The October 24 matinee of Aida will be shown Live in HD in movie theaters internationally.

Borodina, who sings Marguerite in La Damnation de Faust for the first time at the Met when the production returns this Friday evening, October 23, has sung Amneris with the company in four seasons: 1998-99, 2000-01, 2005-06, and 2007-08. In January and February, she will also sing the title role Richard Eyre's new production of Carmen, which opens on December 31. The Russian mezzo-soprano has sung a wide variety of roles with the company, including Dalila in Samson et Dalila, Laura in La Gioconda, the Principessa in Adriana Lecouvreur, Paulina in The Queen of Spades, Isabella in L'Italiana in Algeri, the title role in La Cenerentola, Eboli in Don Carlo, and Marina in Boris Godunov, the role of her 1997 Met debut.

Aida is conducted by Daniele Gatti and also features Violeta Urmana in the title role, Johan Botha as Radamès, Carlo Guelfi as Amonasro, Roberto Scandiuzzi as Ramfis, and Stefan Kocán as the King.
