act 1

The Tyrolean Mountains The Marquise de Berkenfield and their managers Hortensius be surprised on the day of their flight to Austria from the arrival of a French regiment. The Marquise suddenly finds himself amidst Dorbewohnern again: The men carry guns, the women pray to the Virgin. Perhaps in response to the prayer, the French draw to facilitate the Marquise back (Pour une femme de mon nom). You can go to bed. Left alone meets Hortensius to Sulpice, a sergeant of the 21st regiment. Although makes Hortensius suspect through his fear, he will receive a pass for himself and his mistress. Sulpice is frequented by the young Marie, who turned twelve years earlier found as a child on a battlefield (Au bruit de la guerre, j'ai reçu le jour). It has been adopted by the entire regiment 21 as a daughter (Mon régiment, j'en suis vraiment fière) and draws since then as a sutler with the soldiers (nommée à l'unanimité). For some time she meets with the Tyrolean partisans Tonio to which it is inflamed with love. When Sulpice Marie little pleased notifies that it has been seen at these meetings, she calms Sulpice by pointing to no longer want to take the young man in the future. As Tonio is led as a prisoner of the Force (C'est un traître, qu'il Périsse). He had risked his life to meet Marie. To save him, Marie tells the soldiers that Tonio had once saved, as they overthrow picking flowers from a rock threatened (Quoi! La mort à celui qui me Sauva la vie!). At this news the soldiers hit with her new boyfriend, the rescuers Maries. Marie sings the regimental song (Il est là, morbleu, le beau Vingt-et-unième). The regiment breaks together with Tonio on, but he manages to escape unnoticed and return to Marie (Quoi! Vous m'aimez?). Sulpice surprises them. Marie must Tonio notified that they may marry only a soldier of the 21st Regiment. But this has no intention of giving up. Sulpice approved the Marquise de Berkenfield an escort that will bring them safely to their castle. When the Marquise called her name, located Sulpice remembers having read exactly this name already in a letter which he had found on the battlefield near the young Marie 12 years ago. Well it turns out that the Marquise is the aunt of Regimentstochter. appalled by the behavior Maries, the Marquise decides her niece to her castle take to inflict upon her a befitting education. 2.Akt

The castle Berkenfield The Marquise is home to her castle, where she has just threaded an advantageous marriage with the Duke Maries de Scipion Crakentorp. When this fails, the consent, Tonio reveals what he has learned from his uncle: That the Marquise is not Maries aunt, and he is therefore willing to kidnap the young woman. left alone with Sulpice, the Marquise confesses the truth: they themselves would be the mother Maries, and the girl's father, a certain Captain Robert. Fearing that their not befitting relationship could be revealed, the girl had left. Guests who were invited to sign the marriage contract, appear. Marie refuses to leave her room. The Marquise is at the end of their wisdom and the imposing Duchess de Crakentorp begins to grow impatient. Since Sulpice Marie tells the secret of her birth, whereupon they can not resist any longer. Now leaving Marie her room and is ready to sign the marriage contract, when suddenly Tonio and the soldiers rush in (Au secours de notre fille, nous tous accourons ici). Guests are shocked when they learn that the girl has been a sutler (Une fille de régiment), but change their minds because they recognize the feelings Maries (Au fait, elle est charming!). The Marquise, who do not want to sacrifice their daughter, accepted the marriage with Tonio. Everyone joins in the final chorus "Salut à la France".
