La Boite today announced the cancellation of four performances of their current Griffin Theatre co-production of A Hoax to allow actor Shari Sebbens to travel to the Cannes Film Festival for the Gala Screening of anticipated new Australian filmThe Sapphires.

Sebbens will join co-stars Deborah Mailman, Jessica Mauboy and Miranda Tapsell on the red carpet in France for a special screening of The Sapphires on Saturday 19 May.

“The Sapphires is the only Australian feature film selected as part of this year’s Official Selection at the special Gala Screening Out of Competition at the Palais,” La Boite General Manager Terese Casu said today.

“We’re delighted for Shari and the whole Sapphires team. While no theatre company likes to cancel shows, we understand that moments like these may only come once in a life time for an actor. We are very proud to support Shari down that red carpet for the Gala Screening in Cannes and wish the film every success.”

It's been a big news week for Sebbens, who was also announced Wednesday as one of 13 finalists in the fourth annual Heath Ledger Scholarship, designed to help the winner towards a successful career in Hollywood. Judging this year's awards are Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke, Warner Bros Pictures exec Greg Silverman, casting director Donna Issacson and Gregor Jordan.

La Boite has cancelled the following performances of Rick Viede's A Hoax, directed by Lee Lewis:

Thursday 17 May, 7:30pm
Friday 18 May, 7:30pm
Saturday 19 May, 7:30pm
Tuesday 22 May, 11am

Anyone who has purchased tickets to the above performances will be contacted by La Boite today, and they apologise for any inconvenience this causes.

This cancellation of four performances limits the season to just 13 performances so bookings are essential. The La Boite season must close Saturday 26 May ahead of a Griffin Theatre Company transfer in July.
