UT Theatre & Dance Sets FALL FOR DANCE, 11/17-12/1

By:

The University of Texas at Austin Department of Theatre and Dance presents Fall For Dance, a collection of works by nationally acclaimed choreographers Robert Battle, David Parsons, Charles O. Anderson, and Andy Noble, November 17-18 and December 1 at the McCullough Theatre. Following the critical success of the spring showcase Catalyst, UT's award-winning ensemble Dance Repertory Theatre returns to the stage with this captivating program.

Fall For Dance highlights include Parsons Etude, a highly physical contemporary work by celebrated choreographer David Parsons. Credited by The New York Times as "one of the great movers of modern dance," Parsons is artistic director and founder of Parsons Dance.

Other works include premieres from choreographers Charles O. Anderson, Victoria Mora, and Andy Noble. Anderson, associate professor of African Diasporic Dance at UT, is the founder of dance theatre X, an afro-contemporary dance company named one of "25 to Watch" by Dance Magazine. His work (Re)singing from the Underspace is inspired by feminist critiques of womanhood in western society.

Andy Noble's Terminal Static merges urban music, movement and cutting edge technology. He is the co-artistic director of NobleNotion Dance and assistant professor at Sam Houston State University. UT senior Victoria Mora explores the vulnerability and capacity of the human mind in her work Perception Unveiled.

Fall For Dance
concludes with Promenade by Robert Battle, artistic director of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. Set to John Mackey's discordant score, Battle's modern dance pairs couples in a social dance of juxtaposition, moving between formality and primitivism. Considered as one of the preeminent contemporary dance choreographers, Battle is the third person to head the Ailey company since its inception in 1958.
