Texas Performing Arts Announces 2013-2014 Season

By:

Texas Performing Arts continues a legacy of presenting world-class performances to the University of Texas at Austin and Central Texas audiences with the unveiling of the 2013-2014 season. This season highlights talent from around the world in an eclectic mix of music, theatre, dance, and conversation.

From an evening with The Barefoot Contessa Ina Garten to legendary Broadway diva Barbara Cook, to ten-time Grammy Award-winner Bobby McFerrin, the 2013-2014 season offers a diverse offering of artists and performances. The season also includes return engagements by some of Texas Performing Arts' most innovative artists, including Inner Mongolia's music and cultural sensation AnDa Union, two-time Grammy Award-winning Soweto Gospel Choir, Brazilian percussion master Cyro Baptista, and The National Theatre of Scotland, who played to sold-out audiences in past seasons.

Thanks to a generous multi-year grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, Texas Performing Arts' classical music programming continues to flourish. This season, Mellon funding supports a joint performance of a new work by performance artist Laurie Anderson for the Kronos Quartet; the world premiere of a piece written for string quartet and chamber orchestra by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Kevin Puts, performed by the Miró Quartet and The University of Texas Symphony Orchestra; the legendary Mark Morris Dance Company performing with pianists Anton Nel and Colin Fowler and progressive New York chamber ensemble The Knights; and a ten-day residence from acclaimed string quartet Brooklyn Rider, bookended by two completely different concert programs, including one concert featuring soprano Dawn Upshaw.

"Texas Performing Arts continues to strengthen our service to the UT and Central Texas community," says Texas Performing Arts Director and Associate Dean Kathy Panoff. "Presenting partners like Fusebox Festival, KUT-FM and KUTX-FM, the Schusterman Center for Jewish Studies, The Texas Tribune, and the Austin Classical Guitar Society have allowed us to collectively further the creative culture of Austin."

Four (or more) performance subscription packages are now on sale starting at $92.00, and this year you may choose one Broadway show as part of your Texas Performing Arts subscription! Becoming a subscriber not only ensures great seats for each subscription performance, but also offers a host of additional benefits including 20% off ticket prices to all season performances, preferred seating in advance of the general public, flexible ticket concierge service, free and easy ticket exchanges, access to the exclusive subscriber hotline, and guest passes to Bass Concert Hall's Texas Inner Circle Lounge.

University of Texas at Austin faculty and staff enjoy subscriptions at 30% off ticket prices.

Texas Performing Arts continues to rely on support from Texas Inner Circle members because University funding (just 15% of our budget) and ticket sales do not fully cover the cost of presenting the finest performing arts events and the many engagement programs we offer to the UT campus, Austin, and the Central Texas region. Exclusive benefits for members include access to the best seats in the house, pre-sale opportunities for Broadway performances and touring concerts, unlimited entry into the Texas Inner Circle Lounge at Bass Concert Hall, free parking passes, and more.
