Terrence McNally's MOTHERS AND SONS Added to ZACH's 2014-2015 Season
ZACH Theatre has announced a new addition to the upcoming 2014-15 Mainstage Season. ZACH will stage the Texas premiere of MOTHERS AND SONS by Tony Award-Winning playwright Terrence McNally(author of Love! Valour! Compassion!, Master Class and the musical Ragtime) at ZACH's Topfer Theatre, May 27 - June 21, 2015.
A 2014 Broadway hit, MOTHERS AND SONS is a new American play that exploresour evolving understanding of family in today's world. At turns funny and powerful, MOTHERS AND SONS portrays a mother who pays an unexpected visit to the New York apartment of her late son's partner, who is now married to another man and has a young son. Challenged to face how society has changed all around her, she revisits the past and begins to see the life her son might have led as generations collide in humorous and poignant ways.
"Terrence McNally has created a play so on the pulse of this moment in time that is deeply personal and touches the heart in significant ways. Relationships in families can be tricky to navigate at times, especially when family members don't respond as we hope they might. This play filled me with tremendous compassion for families dealing with extraordinary change, and stayed with me long after the final curtain went down. It is provocative, cathartic and healing, and invites us to expand our hearts and our mind," says Producing Artistic Director Dave Steakley who will also direct MOTHERS AND SONS at ZACH.
