Theater Emory Reimagines Chekhov Short Stories with WATCHING CHEKHOV WATCHING, 2/14-24

Theater Emory presents three original adaptations of short stories by master storyteller, Anton Chekhov, in "Watching Chekhov Watching," February 14-24 in the Theater Lab of Emory's Schwartz Center for Performing Arts. The production features two live theater pieces and one short film adapted and directed by members of the Emory community with casts featuring professional and student actors.

Add to that having the chance to perform the role in front of a hometown audience, filled with family and friends, and you have the story of Stacey Todd Holt, who will play Leo Bloom, the budding theatrical producer in Mel Brooks' hit musical, The Producers when it plays the Fabulous Fox Theatre January 25 - 31, produced by Theater of the Stars. I had the chance to talk to Stacey about his Atlanta roots, his long-time professional relationship with Susan Stroman and what exactly made him "Want to be a Producer".
Alliance Theatre and Anti-Defamation League Host Reading of DEAR DR. KING Today

The Alliance Theatre, in partnership with the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), presents a free reading of Dear Dr. King, an original script written by Pearl Cleage in collaboration with high school Collision Project students. Created out of the Alliance Theatre Collision Project and inspired by the classic film It's a Wonderful Life, this provocative piece uses the unique voice of teenagers to explore issues of legacy and the power that each individual life can play in effecting social change. The performances are part of the ADL's annual No Place For Hate Summit, which will take place today, January 21, 2013.

Aurora Theatre, Gwinnett's only professional theatre, presents the 2013 Barbara Awards Gala Celebration on Monday, February 11, 2013. This year, the awards, named in honor of arts philanthropist Barbara Howard, will honor a couple who truly built Aurora Theatre's new home and for whom our stage is named, Clyde and Sandra Strickland. After providing the lead gift for Aurora Theatre's Creating the Castle Capital Campaign, they continue their critical support as Season Sponsor and Sustaining Patron. Clyde and Sandra Strickland have been a vibrant part of our community for many years, and have become perhaps Gwinnett County's most active philanthropists. In the last few years alone, they have given generously to the Gwinnett Medical Center, Hope Clinic, and Rainbow Village. Other outstanding efforts include: Gwinnett Historical Society; American Cancer Society; Habitat for Humanity, and the Central Gwinnett Cluster Foundation. Guest conductor Xian Zhang -Music Director of The Giuseppe Verdi Orchestra of Milan and former Associate Conductor of the New York Philharmonic- will make her Atlanta Symphony debut leading the Orchestra in Tchaikovsky's romantic Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture and his Symphony No. 2, "Little Russian," named because of its basis in three Ukranian folk songs. Montenegrin guitarist Milos Karadaglic, hailed as a "new guitar hero" by the London Telegraph, will make his Atlanta Symphony debut performing Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez.
