Renaissance Hotel Atlanta Downtown & Terrapin Beer Co. Proudly Present The: World Domination TheatreSports Tournament ‘09 An International Improv Tournament of Epic Proportions!

The weekend of September 10-12th, teams from all over the world will descend upon Dad's Garage Theatre for the 2009 World Domination TheatreSports Tournament! We'll be joined by some old favorites (Rapid Fire Theatre and Iron Cobra) and some new friends (Impro Australia and Upfront Theatre) for a knock-down drag out improv battle of global magnitude! Teams will compete throughout the weekend in TheatreSports style competition in an attempt to conquer comedy...and ultimately the Earth! Only one group will emerge from the wreckage as world champion, while the others slink away into a cold, lonely state of exile.

This year's battle for comedy greatness will feature teams from:
Edmonton (Alberta), Toronto (Ontario), Vancouver (British Columbia), Sydney (Australia), Bellingham (Washington), and Los Angeles (California)

The Teams:

Rapid Fire Theatre (Edmonton, Alberta) www.rapidfiretheatre.com - Rapid Fire is Theatre dedicated to TheatreSports and much more. As Rapid Fire members have developed improvisational and alterNative Theatre, it has expanded into the world of semi-scripted performances, sketch comedy and full-length plays. On the international scene, RFT is renowned as champion improv team and teacher, having visited and won titles in Canada, the U.S. and overseas. Rapid Fire Theatre's company of performers includes over 40 members whose skill levels vary from professional actors who are ACTRA and Actors Equity members to novices who have never been on stage.

Iron Cobra (Toronto, Ontario) www.ironcobra.com - Iron Cobra is a two-person improv outfit from Toronto, Ontario. They are Graham Wagner and Becky Johnson. There is never any reason why you should not watch them perform.

Vancouver TheatreSports League (Vancouver, British Columbia) www.vtsl.com - Vancouver TheatreSports League (VTSL) began in 1980 and is now a pillar of the Vancouver performing arts scene and a worldwide phenomenon, producing and staging some of the most daring and innovative improv in the world. Boasting six International Improv Comedy Awards and starring in several television specials, VTSL first opened their doors at the Back Alley Theatre, where they consistently drew cult-like, capacity crowds. They continue to wow audiences at the New Revue Stage on Granville Island performing to more than 200,000 enthusiasts yearly, 4 nights a week, 52 weeks a year.

Impro Australia (Sydney, Australia) www.improaustralia.com.au - Impro Australia is Australia's longest running improvised theatre company. The troupe has performed Theatresports and just about every other style of improv together for over 25 years in Sydney. Their annual team-based improv competition, The Cranston Cup, attracts the best performers in the country and culminates in a Grand Finale Show in front of 1600 screaming fans.

Upfront Theatre (Bellingham, Washington) www.theupfront.com - Established by Ryan Stiles (Who's Line is it Anyway?, The Drew Carey Show) , The Upfront Theatre opened its doors August 13, 2004. Performers from all over the northwest as well as local talent present many styles of improv comedy ranging from short form games to one act improvised plays, musicals, and competitive improv. Since opening over three years ago the Upfront has hosted events with world class improviser Keith Johnstone author of Impro, received the Mayors Arts Award, won Best Theatre in 2006, and continues to bring the excitement and fun of live improv to Bellingham.

The Stay-At-Home Almonds (Los Angeles, California) - The Stay-At-Home Almonds are Josh Dean, Ryan Smith, and Matthew Young. They perform regularly together at LA's National Comedy Theatre doing team-based competitive improv and longform.
