Photo Flash: Sneak Peek - Play Me Again Pianos to Host Ribbon Cutting for 10th Public Piano in Metro Atlanta

Play Me Again Pianos announced today its newest public piano will open in Atlantic Station on August 25th. The public is invited to attend the ribbon cutting and join in the festivities at 6:00 p.m. Play Me Again Pianos, a Georgia non-profit charity, is working to install and permanently maintain 88 free public pianos throughout the Atlanta Metropolitan area for the community to play and enjoy. "Street pianos and public pianos inspire people to connect with each other in ways that were once common, but seem increasingly rare. By adding our pianos to the landscape throughout the city, we hope to nurture that connection into an evolution of Atlanta's culture, community and the arts," said Jason Brett, co-founder of Play Me Again Pianos.

Artist Aleigha Reott submitted a stunning concept that's just perfect for the location, which will be in front of the Regal Atlantic Station Stadium Theater. "I wanted this piano to be fun and eye-catching; something that is sure to get attention and have people want to play it," said Reott. "This is a special and meaningful project for me as I am dedicating it to my late Grandmother Inez who inspired me and encouraged my passion for art. A purple ladybug will be hidden among the dots in her honor. See if you can find it!"

In keeping with the Play Me Again Pianos' tradition of naming each piano, the piano in Atlantic Station will be called 'Dottie', inspired by Reott's design.

"Atlantic Station is thrilled to welcome 'Dottie the Piano' to our property," said Daniel Easton, Atlantic Station's director of marketing. "As Midtown's original repurposed lifestyle development, we're always looking for new ways to delight our guests, and we're happy to partner with an organization like Play Me Again Pianos, and our Art in the Park instructor, Aleigha Reott, who created and hand-painted the design.

Play Me Again Pianos and Atlantic Station will officially unveil the piano in front of the Regal Stadium 16 theater at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, August 25th with a ribbon cutting ceremony which will feature a performance by a local young pianist. At the end of the performance, the piano will be open to everyone.

Play Me Again Pianos has already placed pianos at the Chastain Park Playground, two at The Woodruff Arts Center, in the plaza at Colony Square (near the MIDTOWN letters), the Dunwoody Nature Center, the Chamblee Rail Trail, Ashford Park in Brookhaven, East Cobb Park and Ponce City Market. Additional pianos are in various stages of planning and development.

Play Me Again Pianos places, maintains and promotes public pianos to strengthen communities, inspire joy and bring people together through shared encounters with public music and art. Each piano is uniquely painted by a variety of volunteer artists ranging from internationally acclaimed professionals to aspiring amateurs and students. Aleigha Reott grew up with art always being a part of her life. She received both her Bachelor's and Master's in Art Education from East Carolina University, where she met her husband, Mike. Aleigha has taught art in the public school system, as well as for homeschoolers, and private classes for both children and adults.
