Georgia Shakespeare's Shake at the Lake Renamed Shakespeare in the Park

By:

Georgia Shakespeare brings one of Atlanta's favorite theatre traditions back to Piedmont Park this May with "Shakespeare in the Park." Formerly known as "Shake at the Lake," the event now has a new name to reflect its move to a new location at Legacy Fountain.

At this year's event, Georgia Shakespeare will present The Tempest May 9 - 13 at 7:30 p.m., with picnicking before and during the performances. On a spring night under the stars, the beautiful outdoor venue is the perfect place to present Shakespeare's most beloved romance.

Directed by Sharon Ott, this magical play is a remount of Georgia Shakespeare's popular 2011 production and tells the story of Prospera, a banished royal who conjures a great tempest with her magic to shipwreck her enemies on her island. By separating her fellow islanders, she manipulates them with her spells to weave a story of revenge, retribution and reconciliation that will leave audiences spellbound.

This year the venue will become a part of the show as it never has before, with a spectacular surprise for audiences that will make for a truly enchanting evening. The production also features an all-local cast, including Georgia Shakespeare Associate Artists Carolyn Cook as Prospera, Chris Kayser as the fairy Ariel, and Neal A. Ghant as Caliban.

At its new location, the event is now more patron-friendly, with convenient parking and reserved seating available. Patrons can purchase reserved tables, chairs, picnicking spots or general admission tickets. Limited free tickets will also be available on a first come, first serve basis on the morning of the show at Piedmont Park and the Georgia Shakespeare Box Office.

This event is made possible with the support of a three-year, $300,000 grant from the Charles Loridans Foundation.

Performances are Wednesday through Sunday at 7:30 p.m. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit www.gashakespeare.org or call the Georgia Shakespeare Box Office at 404.504.1473.
