GTA's OKLAHOMA! Opens Tonight
In the western Indian territory at the turn of the last century, the high-spirited rivalry between the local farmers and cowboys provides the colorful background against which Curly, a handsome cowboy, and Laurey, a winsome farm girl, play out their love story. Although the road to true love never runs smooth, with these two headstrong romantics holding the reins, love's journey is more like a surrey ride down a country road.
"OKLAHOMA!" will perform November 4-15 as the Gainesville Theatre Alliance presents this American classic credited as "the first musical play." Barbara Hartwig, is Guest Director and Choreography for the play. During her extensive career as a dancer, Hartwig has performed on Broadway, at the White House and as an orphan in the movie Annie; she directed and choreographed GTA's musical GUYS & DOLLS last season.
The Gainesville Theatre Alliance is a nationally acclaimed collaboration of the University of North Georgia, Brenau University, theatre professionals and the North Georgia community.
The production, which includes a host of celebrated Rogers & Hammerstein show tunes, will be in Brenau University's Hosch Theatre in the John S. Burd Center, 429 Academy St., Gainesville. Patrons can get a peek behind-the-scenes with the FREE stage tour on October 21st at 6:00pm. There will also be a special preview performance at 7:30pm, on Monday, Nov. 3, with discounted tickets at just $10. And there will be a FREE reception in the lobby following the Opening Night performance tonight, Nov. 4, catered by LUNA's. An audio described performance for patrons with a visual impairment will be on Saturday, November 15th at the 2:30pm show.
