Three years ago there was no place to see live comedy in Gwinnett. Aurora Theatre, a pioneer in fulfilling the entertainment needs of Gwinnettians, introduced club comedy to the square in downtown Lawrenceville. Now it may be a little easier to find comedy in Gwinnett, but if you want the top comedians in the best atmosphere, Aurora Theatre continues to stay ahead of the curve.

Funny Fridays will begin a brand new season on August 28, 2009 with local legend Rob Cleveland as headliner. His style is reminiscent of comedic giants Bill Cosby and Jerry Seinfeld as he finds the silly in those everyday things we tend to gloss over.(Like, why are there Braille instructions at the drive through ATM?) As a stand up comedian, Rob has performed in many comedy clubs across the country, including Dangerfield's in NYC, The Improv in NYC and Los Angeles and several engagements at Atlanta's Punchline. Opening as the featured act will be Debra Cole, known for her sophisticated and smart humor that's delivered with a seemingly sweet and yet surprising sarcastic Southern Georgia twang. Recently, she was one of the chosen few to perform at the Asheville Comedy Festival.

There are a few changes in store for the 2009-2010 Funny Fridays season, including new times to better serve the comedy going public. Shows will now begin at 7:15 and 9:15 PM. Aurora Theatre also plans to offer a wider variety of comedy acts in the coming months. Once again McCray's Tavern will be offering bar service for the Funny Fridays series to give the Gwinnett Federal Credit Union Studio a real comedy club feel.

"Not unlike our Lawrenceville Ghost Tours and Aurora Children's Playhouse, Funny Fridays is another program that we started not knowing how or if it was going to succeed. I think the key is bringing in the very best talent, having a great place to see a show, then really listening to the feedback of the patrons and making the right adjustments," explains Aurora Theatre Producing Artistic Director, who continues, "To have a headliner like Rob Cleveland to kick off the third season is a real coup. Rob served as MC for a couple of Aurora fundraising events and had the audience in pain with laughter. I can't wait to see what he does with a full set of comedy."
