Atlanta Lyric Theatre Launches JR. LYRIC 2012 Summer Musical Theatre Workshop

By:

Atlanta Lyric Theatre today announced details for the 2012 JR. LYRIC Summer Musical Theatre Workshop. The workshop will take place July 9-20, 2012 and allow area youth the opportunity to audition, rehearse and perform in Disney's Alice in Wonderland Jr. while gaining professional theatre skills. Camp sessions will be held Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at The Murray Arts Center Campus (2250 Stilesboro Rd, Kennesaw, GA 30152). The camp is open to students ages 10-13 and is limited to 45 participants.

Students will learn from highly skilled, working professionals who make their living as performance artists both locally and regionally. Curriculum will include a professional audition workshop, teaching portions of choreography and music from the selected show, an actual audition and casting. By the completion of the camp, students will have a professional headshot, short monologue and song prepared for future auditions.

"Students participating in Atlanta Lyric Theatre's JR. LYRIC program will be exposed to the entire process that goes into creating a successful show, from the audition stage through performance," said Brandt Blocker, Artistic Director. "We want these kids to have a fun, authentic experience and leave them with basic theatrical skills they can use both on-stage and off."

The final Friday of camp will feature an evening performance of Disney's Alice in Wonderland Jr. The show focuses on Alice's madcap adventures in Wonderland as she chases the White Rabbit, races the Dodo Bird, gets tied up with the Tweedles, raps with a bubble-blowing Caterpillar and beats the Queen of Hearts at her own game. Roles include three Cheshire Cats and dozens of wonderfully wacky characters.

Disney's Alice in Wonderland Jr. is a fast-paced stage adaptation of the Disney cartoon featuring updated dialogue and new arrangements of such classic Disney songs as "I'm Late," "The Un-birthday Song" and "Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah."
