Atlanta Fringe Festival Now Accepting Submissions Through 1/10

By:

The Atlanta Fringe Festival has announced that submissions are now open for the third annual edition of the festival, set to run June 5-8, 2014. Now through January 10, 2014, AFF is accepting submissions for both the Fringe Festival and the Fringe Radio, with submission packets and more information available on their website www.atlantafringe.org. Applications for the Fringe Festival are $25 with productions selected via lottery. Applications for Fringe Radio are $15, with 25 slots available on a first come, first serve basis.

Entering its third year of curating innovative theatre for adventurous audiences, the Festival has many fantastic developments for 2013, including the addition of exciting new venues (TBA) with the goal of making the entire festival walkable for audiences. Festival organizers hope to exceed the impressive roster for 2013's festival, which boasted 24 productions from ten different states, culminating in the festival being chosen as Best New Trend in the Arts by the readers of Creative Loafing!

On the audio side, Fringe Radio will once again be offering internet broadcast of radio plays via our podcasting network, the only one of its kind in the Fringe Festival circuit. Last year's artists were played or downloaded over 1,000 times during the festival, from countries as far away as Australia, Japan, Thailand and Argentina. This year's productions will be exclusively available for online streaming from May 26th-June 8th, 2014, totally free of charge.

As Executive DIrector Diana Brown recently said in her well-received speech at Atlanta's TEDx Centennial Park Women event, "Power is the willingness to do the work. What makes you special is when you show up." Fringe seeks to empower artists who dare to take a risk and create from their own voice. As the Fringe motto says: "All that's missing is You!"

Other events for the year include the superhero-themed participant Reveal Party In early February, an Easter-themed Art Hunt in April, as well as opening and closing night parties surrounding the festival itself (where we let our Dirty South hair down amidst all the high-minded artistic revelry.) In addition, Fringe will be periodically bringing International Artists to Atlanta via their new Atlanta Fringe Presents series, recently inaugurated by Cameryn Moore's successful short run of "Phone Whore" at the Highland Ballroom.

Those interested are encouraged to follow AFF on Twitter (@AtlantaFringe) and Facebook (www.facebook.com/atlantafringe), where they will find new announcements, volunteer opportunities, and lots of parody rap lyrics.
