Theatre in the Square is excited to present Annie Baker’s Off-Broadway hit, Circle Mirror Transformation as its final show of the 2010-11 season. The Obie Award winning play was voted one of the Top 10 plays of 2009-10 by the New York Times and The New Yorker. The play is set in a "creative" acting class and follows a quirky group of aspiring actors, strangers at the beginning, who attempt to create characters while revealing a great deal about their own personal makeup and lives. It's a behind-the-scenes look at the creative process, foibles and all. Circle Mirror Transformation opened Wednesday, April 27, on the Main Stage. Tickets are available at the Box Office by calling 770-422-8369 or online atwww.theatreinthesquare.com

The amazing part of this play is the way in which art is imitating real life on stage. Seasoned actress, Shelly McCook (Marty) takes on the role of the acting class teacher. This is not too far of a stretch for McCook who has been teaching drama for 15 years at Marietta High School. The acting students in Circle Mirror Transformation include David de Vries (James), who was most recently seen in ALLIANCE THEATRE’s CarapaceSteven L. Hudson (Shultz), who’s last stent with Theatre in the Square was A Tuna Christmas in 2009, Amber Chaney (Teresa) who has been working as an actress, model and voiceover talent for more than a decade, and Rachel DeJulio (Lauren), a recent Kennesaw State University graduate who has been on stage at many Atlanta theatres including Actor’s Express and Theatrical Outfit and is the resident blogger for the show. All of these actors have had years of training in theatre and when it came to playing the “theatre games” that are a part of the show, they jumped right in as old pros. Director Susan Reid leads the cast skillfully with an “innate ability to pull out sincere, raw, human emotions from each character. This works beautifully when paired with Annie Baker’s insightful and subtle playwriting, “according to DeJulio.

Members of the artistic team that brought to life this fun and revealing show include twins Isabel and Moriah Curley-Clay (Scenic and Costume Designers), props designer Lindsay Moore, sound designer Thom Jenkins, and lighting designer Cristopher P. Kettrey.

Performances are Tuesdays through Saturdays at 8 p.m., Sundays at 2:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. There is a Wednesday matinee at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 25 onlyThe play is recommended for ages 16 and up.
