Actors Theatre of Georgia Looks to Chicago for Season 3 Inspiration

It has been nearly 12 years since the original Theatre in the Square closed its doors after producing theatre for Metro Atlanta area for nearly 30 years. It is with great pleasure that Marietta's New Theatre in the Square and Actors Theatre of Georgia has announced their third season after reopening the historic doors three years. Determine to stay the chosen course and present theatre that is true to their mission; to focus on programs that create, educate, and inspire the reflection of the community we live. Artistic Director Emil Thomas has selected a season like no other in the city. Set to begin this March, Yale's Playwright Chairman and DePaul University graduate, Tarrell Alvin McCraney's, THE BROTHER/SISTER PLAYS will have it Atlanta premiere under the Direction of Emil Thomas, Chicago native Tracy Bonner, and Atlanta's own Nic Starr.

This is the first collection by Tarell Alvin McCraney, a major new playwright of the American theater. Lyrical and mythic, provocative and contemporary, McCraney's dramas of kinship, love, and heartache are set in the bayou of Louisiana and loosely draw on West African myths.

In the Red and Brown Water charts the story of Oya, a fast and beautiful track star who must make difficult choices on her journey to womanhood. The Brothers Size dramatizes the struggle between brothers who have taken different paths: Ogun, single-mindedly running his auto shop, and Oshoosi, recently returned from prison and fallen back with trouble. Marcus; or the Secret of Sweet explores a young man's relationship with his history and friends as he discovers his sexuality and true self against the backdrop of an impending storm.
