World Premiere of LAFAYETTE Set for Florence Gould Hall, 4/22-23

On Wednesday, April 22nd and Thursday, April 23rd at 7:30 in FIAF's Florence Gould Hall (55 East 59th Street), Marquis de Lafayette will be reborn in the world-premiere of Lafayette. Inspired by the letters between the young Lafayette and his wife, the play tells the story of the 19-year-old man who sailed to America as a volunteer soldier and became the youngest general in George Washington's army. The story follows the young French couple's life of adventures, and their political brinkmanship in securing support for the American cause from a reluctant king.

Lafayette is written by veteran playwright Ian Curteis directed by John Michael DiResta, and produced by Robert Lear. It stars Paul-Emile Cendron (The Judge) and Becca Ballenger. The play is co-presented by FIAF and the Friends of Hermione-Lafayette in America.

The Friends of Hermione-Lafayette in America exists to organize Hermione Voyage 2015: the sailing of an accurate reconstruction of the Hermione, which Lafayette sailed to America in aid of the American Revolution in 1780, across the Atlantic and up the eastern coast of the United States in Summer 2015. The American Friends also aim to create a legacy of cultural and education assets that celebrate that role of Lafayette and Hermione in aiding American independence.
