Worcester County Light Opera Co Hosts Auditions For THE HOUSE OF BLUE LEAVES

By:

Fantasy and reality collide in John Guare's play, "The House of Blue Leaves." The result is broad, sometimes absurd humor pitted against the tragic circumstances of unfulfilled lives.

It's 1965 and the Pope is coming to New York City to deliver a message of peace. This brings a host of unlikely characters together in Artie Shaughnessy's rooftop apartment in Sunnyside, Queens.

CASTING NEEDS:
Artie Shaughnessy (40's to early 50's) Male lead who must be a versatile actor to capture Artie's enthusiasm and hope as well as his desperation and futility.

Bananas Shaughnessy (40's to early 50's) One of the two female leads who is a manic depressive. Must display a multitude of emotions.

Bunny Flingus (Late 30's to middle 40's) One of the two female leads who has the most comic lines in the play. A bit of a bimbo who commands the stage.

Billie Einhorn (40's to early 50's) Hollywood Producer and Artie's boyhood friend.

Corinna Stroller (20's or 30's) Hollywood starlet and Billie's girlfriend. Lost her hearing on the set of a war movie. Vacant looks and expressive faces punctuate her character.

Ronnie Shaughnessy (18 to middle 20's) Artie and Banana's son who is AWOL from the army. Long soliloquy to open Act 2 which requires strong almost athletic movement.

Three Nuns (Head nun 40 or older) (Middle Nun 30 or older) (Little Nun 20's or early 30's) Very funny scene in Act 2

Military Policeman (Middle 20's to 40's) He has a few lines as he seeks out the AWOL Ronnie.

The White Man (Hospital Orderly 30's or 40's) He comes to take Bananas to the Institution.
