Trashed is an international choreographic collaboration between Chicago Choreographer Winifred Haun and Australian Circus Artist Emma Serjeant. The new work combines Modern Dance with Contemporary Circus to tell the story of how humans have to come to clutter their lives with too much stuff, and how all that stuff keeps us from each other.
Participating artists include: Solomon Bowser, Zada Cheeks, Ariel Dorsey, Michael Gee and Rebekah Kuczma of Winifred Haun & Dancers, and Emma Serjeant, Katie McDonagh and Catherine Wait of Emma Serjeant Performance. Trashed will feature an original costume design by Jeff Hancock. In addition to Trashed, the evening's program will also include "Your nearest exit may be behind you," a modern dance work choreographed by Winifred Haun in 2016, and a hand balancing solo work choreographed and performed by Emma Serjeant. There will be a special Trashed Circus Workshop taught by Emma Serjeant on Sunday, March 12 at 2:30pm at the Hubbard St. Dance Center. The Workshop is for everyone, ages 10 through adult. Participants will learn ground based circus acrobatics and handstand techniques. Workshop participants can also participate in a rehearsal and perform in Trashed.
