Perhaps no one felt more relief after the conclusion of NBC's THE WIZ LIVE! than Shanice Williams. The 19 year old, unknown actress (until last night) made a big impression as the show's heroine, leaving theatre fans to question: Will she play Dorothy on Broadway?

She told the Hollywood Reporter: "Broadway has always been my dream. I think it'd be cool to be in film and television but I never thought that would happen. Broadway is always what I've been training to do and what I've always dreamed about so that would be incredible."

She continued: "My dream job would be starring in a lead role on a Broadway musical. Once on This Island is one of my favorite musicals, so to have the lead in that would be great. Audra McDonald is my biggest inspiration so working with her in any show, that would make my life's dream come true. "

The New Jersey native who has been raised and trained in musical theater, was selected out of hundreds of applicants nationwide who had auditioned to portray the iconic role of a Kansas farm girl who gets swept up in a tornado and is sent to the mysterious land of Oz.

With five years of musical training that also includes extensive dance and piano, Williams has co-starred in several local productions, including "West Side Story," "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown," "42nd Street," "Seussical" and "Pippin." Last year Williams was nominated for best leading actress in a musical at the Paper Mill Playhouse's annual Rising Star Awards.
