Wheeldon Holds Free Open-Rehearsal 10/19 at City Center

Choreographer Christopher Wheeldon will hold a free-to-the-public, open rehearsal at City Center on Friday, October 19 at 4PM.  Wheeldon plans to make pre-curtain talks, conducted by choreographers, performing artists and others, a signature event of his new dance company, Morphoses/The Wheeldon Company, to help to demystify ballet and help cultivate a new generation of dance audiences.

The open rehearsal will feature Wheeldon working with several of the dancers from Morphoses/The Wheeldon Company, which is making its US debut at NY City Center October 17 – 21.  He will discuss and demonstrate the artistic process involved in creating new works, and hold an open conversation with the audience. Doors will open at 3:30PM; seating is limited and admission is on a first come first served basis.

Choreographer Christopher Wheeldon's new dance company, Morphoses/The Wheeldon Company, will make its New York debut October 17 – 21, 2007 at New York City Center, where it has become guest Resident Company. The season will include two American premieres and two New York premieres choreographed by Christopher Wheeldon, as well as New York premieres by several of today's cutting-edge international choreographers, including William Forsythe, Liv Lorent, Michael Clarke and Edwaard Liang. 

The company will perform to live music each evening, including performances with full orchestra comprised of members of the Orchestra of St. Lukes, led by Rob Fisher. Leading dancers from major US and European ballet companies will be participating in this debut New York season, including Ashley Bouder, Darcey Bussell, Jonathan Cope, Gonzalo Garcia, Nehemiah Kish, Maria Kowroski, Michael Nunn, Oxana Panchenko, William Trevitt, Wendy Whelan, Anastasia Yatsenko and others. 

Morphoses/The Wheeldon Company will play for six performances, October 17 – 21, at New York City Center, 55th Street, between 6th and 7th Avenues, according to the following schedule:  Wednesday, October 17 at 7:30PM, Thursday, October 18 at 7PM (Gala); Friday October 19 at 8PM, Saturday, October 20 at 2PM and 8PM, and Sunday, October 21 at 3PM.
