West Sacramento Community Theater Holds Auditions For ARSENIC AND OLD LACE 8/29

West Sacramento Community Theater will be holding auditions for Arsenic and Old Lace at 205 Stone Blvd. in West Sacramento, CA. 95691(Stone is off of Jefferson Blvd.) on Sunday August 29th and Monday August 30th from 7 to 9 pm.

The Audition - Bring a head shot and resume' if you have them. A monologue would be nice but is not required. No music or dancing. Most of the audition will be cold readings from the script.

The Schedule - Rehearsal will be Monday through Thursdays 7 to 9 pm September 7th through November 4th. Not all of these rehearsals will be called and not all actors will be called for all rehearsals.
- Performances will Friday and Saturday Nov. 5th and,6th 7:00 pm to 10:30 pm and Sunday November 7th 1:00 pm to 4:30 pm and Friday and Saturday Nov. 12th and 13th 7:00 pm to 10:30 pm and Sunday November 14th 1:00 pm to 4:30 pm.

The Play - This staple of live theater was originally done in the prewar 1940's and is a farce about a family of congenital homicidal maniacs. It's sort of "Silence of the Lambs" meets Abbot and Costello. There is a lot of theater tradition tied up in this show because not only was it a classic movie with Carey Grant, Raymond Massey and Peter Lorre but during the forties and fifties Boris Karloff (a huge star of his time) played himself many times in small productions throughout the country.

The Roles -

Mortimer - Male 25 to 45, preferably short, smug but nervous drama critic,
Elaine - Female ingénue preferably tall and pretty
Aunts Abby and Martha - 2 sweet little old ladies who've developed a bad habit of murdering old men as part of their charities.
Jonathan - male over 30 preferably tall/ lean, Frankenstein look alike, menacingly evil
Dr. Einstein - male, over 30, preferably short, intelligent and creepy, German accent
Teddy - male, over 30, crazy boisterous Theodore Roosevelt look alike
Sargent Brophy - male, over 30, typical Brooklyn cop, Irish accent a plus
Officer O'Hara - male, over 30, typical Brooklyn cop who'll talk your ear off, Irish accent a plus
The Captain - male, over 40, officious senior police officer
Mr. Witherspoon - male, over 40, nervous fastidious director of a sanitarium.
Two older men - male, over 50, cantankerous older gentlemen suitable for poisioning.
