The Revival, a new comedy theater in Hyde Park, announces its lineup of shows and events playing in January 2017.

Inspired by the legacy of the Compass Players, The Revival brings improvisational comedy back to the same corner where it was invented in 1955.

The Hutchins Plan

Longform Improv featuring UChicago Dean John W. Boyer

The Hutchins Plan is named for early twentieth century University of Chicago President RoBert Maynard Hutchins. Featuring "Special Guests" from across the College, the performance begins with an extemporaneous monologue which inspires a series of interconnected scenes. Join your host Prof. Randal Picker (The University of Chicago Law School) and The Hutchins Plan Ensemble for an evening of classic long-form improvisation. This week featuring Dean John W. Boyer!

Stand-Up Comedy, Music and Consciousness hosted by Leon Rogers

Word Play - a Dave Jeff Joint - is the sound of real hip hop mixed with the hottest new stand ups from across the country and topped with the consciousness of the best spoken word artists on the planet. Word Play harnesses the power of words from different aspects of our culture to incite laughter, cheers and tears. Curated by cultural architect Dave Jeff of PHLI; hosted by acclaimed personality Leon Rogers (WGCI); and featuring Guest DJs and Artists for a PHLI game of words!

The Revival is a new comedy venue in Hyde Park dedicated to reflecting the diversity of Chicago's South Side on stage.
