WNYC's 'On the Media' Will Feature Cyndi Lauper, 4/23

Cyndi Lauper shot to fame in 1983 with "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun," becoming the first female artist to have an album with four top five hits on the Billboard Hot 100.

Thirty years later, Lauper is as busy as ever. Her latest blues album was nominated for a Grammy, she released a memoir, and currently stars in the new reality show on WEtv, Cyndi Lauper: Still So Unusual. She launched the Give a Damn campaign to bring awareness to the discrimination of the LGBT community, and last summer acted as the Grand Marshall in NYC's Gay Pride Parade. And most recently, she wrote the music and lyrics for KINKY BOOTS, a new show written by Harvey Fierstein that opens on Broadway this spring.

On Tuesday, April 23 at 7pm, the multi-talented Lauper will sit down with On the Media host and managing editor Brooke Gladstone to discuss her struggles and triumphs amid all the explosive changes in the music business, and what it's like being an artist in a DIY-world, where the traditional support structures have fallen apart. Lauper will discuss her Queens upbringing, her colorful career (and hair!) and her latest venture into the world of musical theater.
