Video: Danielle Brooks Stars in Broadway-Themed UBER THE MUSICAL Ad

Danielle Brooks is bringing a showbiz flair to the world of transportation. In "Uber: The Musical," the Tony and Oscar-nominated performer draws on her theater background with a Broadway-inspired jingle that serves as an advertisement for the popular rideshare service.

The new video follows The Color Purple star as Uber takes her around the city, with Brooks treating viewers to a performance of the original song all along the way. The ad officially dropped on Instagram and YouTube Friday morning, just two days before the 79th Tony Awards ceremony. 

"Uber connects people to the moments that matter every day​, so what better way to hype up the Broadway community ahead of the Tony Awards than with our very own social-first musical?" posed Max Damashek, Global Social Content at Uber. "Collaborating with the iconic Danielle Brooks was the ultimate standing ovation. Talk about a five star performance!"

"When you need a ride, don't walk a mile. Just tap the app and wait in style," Brooks sings in the video. Check out Uber: The Musical below, which also reminds viewers of their delivery service, Uber Eats, which can bring users "almost everything from sushi rolls to pizza" and "groceries to school supplies." 

Brooks made her Broadway debut in the Tony Award-winning revival of The Color Purple musical, for which she earned a Tony Award nomination, a Drama Desk Award, an Outer Critics Circle Award, and a Grammy Award. She reprised her role in the 2023 film adaptation.

Onstage, Brooks most recently starred in August Wilson's Pulitzer Prize-winning Broadway play “The Piano Lesson” opposite Samuel L. Jackson and John David Washington and directed by LaTanya Richardson Jackson. For her performance, she earned nominations for a Drama Desk, Drama League and Outer Critics Circle Award.

Brooks rose to prominence for her portrayal of “Taystee” on the popular Netflix series “Orange is the New Black”. Other film and television work includes James Gunn's "Peacemaker," 2025's "A Mincecraft Movie," a voiceover role in "The Bad Guys 2," the holiday film "Oh. What. Fun." and the recent independent film "If I Go Will They Miss Me."
