As reported by BroadwayWorld, starring on Broadway as the determined survivor Celie in the hit revival of THE COLOR PURPLE eight times a week just isn't enough of a workout for Tony-winner Cynthia Erivo.

Lately she's taken to social media to inspire followers with video glimpses of her gym workouts; rope-climbing, kick-boxing and maneuvering on the rings.

Of course, it's trick photography, not her physical fitness, that makes the supremely talented visitor from the UK look like a speed demon at the makeup table in that last video.

Erivo got her first big musical theatre break in Kneehigh Theatre's production of THE UNBRELLAS OF CHERBOURG at the Gielgud Theatre, followed by the starring role of Deloris Van Cartier in the UK tour of SISTER ACT. She appeared in the West End as Chenice in Harry Hill and Simon Cowell's musical I CAN'T SING at the London Palladium and also played the leading role of Dessa in the European premiere of Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty musical Dessa Rose at Trafalgar Studios.

Beginning performances Tuesday, October 4, Tony and Grammy Award winner Jennifer Holliday will assume the role of Shug Avery in John Doyle's Tony Award-winning production of the Broadway musical, The Color Purple. Heather Headley, who is currently performing the role, will give her final performance on Sunday, October 2.

Best Actress Tony Award winner Cynthia Erivo leads a powerhouse cast in the new Broadway revival of The Color Purple, which opened December 10, at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre (242 W 45th Street). Based on Alice Walker's Pulitzer Prize winning novel and the Warner Bros. / Amblin Entertainment motion picture,THE COLOR PURPLE is adapted for the stage by Pulitzer Prize and Tony award winner Marsha Norman, with music and lyrics by Grammy award winners Brenda Russell, Allee Willis and Stephen Bray. The show won the 2016 Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical.

THE COLOR PURPLE is an unforgettable story of enduring love and triumph over adversity. With a fresh, joyous score of jazz, ragtime, gospel and blues, this stirring family chronicle follows the inspirational Celie, as she journeys from childhood through joy and despair, anguish and hope to discover the power of love and life.
