Ute Lemper Presents 'Blue Angels and Demons' At Cafe Carlyle Beginning February 7

Café Carlyle (located in The Carlyle Hotel, Madison Avenue at 76th Street), announces the return engagement of Ute Lemper, international star of stage and screen (Chicago, Cabaret, Cats) and screen (Pret-A-Porter) for a three-week engagement beginning February 7th. The "irresistibly classy" (Variety) and always unpredictable Ms. Lemper (who became a new mother on November 1st), will present a program entitled "Blue Angels and Demons," a musical journey through Berlin cabaret songs, Yiddish tunes, a walk on the Weill side, with a wink to George Gershwin. She will be joined by Vana Gierig on piano, Mark Lambert on acoustic guitar, Dan Falzone on bass and Todd Turkisher on drums.

Performances begin Tuesday, February 7th and will continue through Saturday, February 25th. The performance schedule is: Tuesdays through Saturdays at 8:45PM with late shows on Fridays and Saturdays at 10:45PM. There will be an additional show at 10:45PM on Tuesday, February 14th. The cover charge is $75 on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings ; $85 on Friday and Saturday evenings. There is no minimum. Every Monday night at 8:45PM, Woody Allen appears with the Eddy Davis New Orleans Jazz Band. There is an $85 music charge. For reservations please call 212-744-1600. Ute Lemper's career is vast and varied. She has made her mark on the stage, in films, in concert and as a unique recording artist. She has been universally praised for her interpretations of Berlin cabaret songs, the works of Kurt Weill and French chanson and for her portrayals on Broadway and in London¹s West End.

Ute was born in Münster, Germany and completed her studies at The Dance Academy in Cologne and the Max Reinhardt Seminary Drama School in Vienna. Her professional debut on the musical stage was in the Viennese production of CATS in which she alternated between the roles of Grizabella and Bombalurina. She went on to play the title role in Peter Pan (Berlin) and Sally Bowles in Jerome Savary's Cabaret (Paris) for which she received the Molière for Best Actress in a Musical. She played Lola in The Blue Angel (Berlin) and Maurice Bejart created a ballet for her, La Mort Subite (Paris). Ms. Lemper also appeared in Weill Revue with the Pina Bausch Tantztheater.

Ute Lemper has been presented in such prestigious concert venues as La Scala, The Sydney Opera House, London¹s Royal Festival Hall, The Kennedy Center and Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall. She has appeared with leading symphony orchestras throughout the world including The London Symphony Orchestra, The Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, The London Philharmonic Orchestra, The Boston Symphony Orchestra, The Hollywood Bowl Orchestra and The San Francisco Symphony Orchestra.

Her recordings for Decca include Ute Lemper Sings Kurt Weill (Vols. I and II), The Threepenny Opera, The Seven Deadly Sins, Mahagonny Songspiel, Prospero's Books (Michael Nyman), Songbook (Michael Nyman/Paul Celan), Illusions (Piaf/Dietrich), City of Strangers (Prever/Sondheim) and Berlin Cabaret Songs (German and English versions) and Punishing Kiss, featuring new songs composed for her by Elvis Costello, Tom Waits, Philip Glass and Nick Cave and But One Day, featuring Ute's own compositions - both lyrics and music - and includes a special appearance by Laurie Anderson. Her latest recording on DRG is Blood and Feathers, captured live on CD and DVD at the Café Carlyle in March 2005. A collection of her own compositions is to be released later this year.

Ute was named Billboard magazine¹s "Crossover Artist of the Year" for 1993-1994. Her 1998 recording All That Jazz/The Best of Ute Lemper, featured highlights from her illustrious career to date and coincided with her playing Velma Kelly in the London production of Kander and Ebb's Chicago for which she received the 1998 Olivier Award for Best Actress in a Musical.
After nine months in London's West End, Ms. Lemper made her Broadway debut in September 1998. A major highlight of her eight-month American engagement in Chicago was starring with Chita Rivera in the Las Vegas premiere in March 1999. Ute's many film and television credits include L'Autrichienne, Prospero's Books, Moscow Parade, Pret-A-Porter, Rage/Outrage, The Dreyfus Affair, Tales From the Crypt (HBO) and Ute Lemper Sings Kurt Weill (Bravo).

Ute makes frequent appearances in all major European venues, theaters and music festivals and tours yearly in Australia, Japan and South America,
