The University of Montana Department of Drama/Dance is pleased to offer Medea, a unique look at the classic Greek tragedy. Medea runs in the Masquer Theatre of the Performing Arts and Radio/Television Center on campus April 28-May 2 and May 5-9 at 7:30 p.m.

Passion and betrayal set the stage for Medea's revenge against her estranged husband, Jason, and the royal family into which he intends to marry. Euripides' perceptive portrayal of Medea, a strong but fatally flawed character, reveals both her personal motivation and the overall oppression of women in Greek society. Medea contemplates unspeakable acts that will bring her grief as well as retribution.

The play's director, Deborah Voss, is a third-year MFA candidate in the Department of Drama/Dance; this production serves as her Final Creative Project. Voss is joined by one of her peers: third-year MFA candidate Michelle Edwards tackles the title role as her Final Creative Project. Acting majors from every year of the program round out the cast of this powerful, time-honored play.
