The Un-Common Theatre Company is pleased to announce audition dates for their two spring 2011 shows: "The Enchantment of the Beauty and the Beast" and "The Secret Garden".

"The Enchantment of the Beauty and the Beast" tells the tale of a powerful witch who is rejected by a selfish prince. After a curse is placed on him, he is destined to be a "beast" until he learns to love. Years later, a poor widow plucks a forbidden rose. Though he sentences the woman to death, Beast allows her to say good-bye to her family. At the widow's farm, we meet her two distasteful daughters and greedy sons-in-law. The four of them hear her "insane" story and don't believe her. But her third daughter, Beauty, goes to the Beast and promises to stay if her mother's life is spared. The Beast falls in love with Beauty. She is like a princess to him. Unfortunately, the two sons-in-law slink into the eerie castle hoping to filch a treasure. In a hilarious and thrilling scene, not only is there a battle with the Beast, but also with the furniture, too! But could Beauty ever love Beast?

Auditions for "The Enchantment of the Beauty and the Beast" will be open to students in grades 1-6 and will be held on Saturday, December 18th from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm at the Mansfield YMCA by appointment only. Call backs will be held later that day from 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm at the Mansfield YMCA. Students should be prepared to sing 16 bars of a familiar children's song (Disney, Broadway tunes, holiday carols, etc.)

"The Secret Garden" brings Frances Hodgson Burnett's classic children's novel to wondrous life in this Tony Award musical production, featuring the enchanting music of Lucy Simon and the spellbinding lyrics of Marsha Norman. This magical production tells the story of lonely 10-year-old Mary Lennox who is sent to live with her uncle Archibald Craven in Misselthwaite Manor, Yorkshire after being orphaned by a cholera epidemic in India. Still grieving over the loss of his beloved wife, who died ten years earlier during childbirth, and distraught over the condition of his bedridden son Colin, Archibald casts a dark shadow over the manor. The estate's many wonders include a magic garden which beckons the children with haunting melodies and the "Dreamers", spirits from Mary's past who guide her through her new life, dramatizing "The Secret Garden's" compelling tale of forgiveness and renewal.

Auditions for "The Secret Garden" will be open to students in grades 5-12 and will be held on Sunday, January 2nd from 1:00-4:00 pm at the South Foxboro Community Center, 382 South Street, Foxboro, MA by appointment only. Call backs will be held on Monday, January 3rd at 6:30pm the Robinson School, 245 East Street, Mansfield, MA. Students should be prepared to sing 16 bars of both an up-tempo song and a ballad from a classical Broadway musical (preferably other than "The Secret Garden").
