Michael Grandage's 2004 – 05 season continues with Terry Johnson's INSIGNIFICANCE, directed by Samuel West.

New York, 1953. High above the city, in a luxury hotel bedroom, on a hot summer's night, four of America's most famous legends – a beautiful film star, a Nobel-Prize-winning scientist, a renowned baseball player and an infamous senator – meet for an extraordinary confrontation.

Samuel West is an actor, director and narrator who has worked on a wide range of projects on the stage, film and on television. His credits as a director include LES LIAISONS DANGEREUSES (Bristol Old Vic); and the Olivier Nominated COSÌ FAN TUTTE (Barbican). As an actor his theatre work includes HAMLET and RICHARD II (RSC) and among his film credits are HOWARDS END and IRIS. Sam will become Sheffield Theatres' Artistic Director when Michael Grandage steps down in June 2005.

Terry Johnson writes and directs work for TV, film and theatre. His writing for theatre includes HYSTERIA (Royal Court), he wrote and directed HITCHCOCK BLONDE (Royal Court) and recently wrote and directed for television, NOT ONLY BUT ALWAYS (Channel 4).

The cast is Gerard Horan, Nicholas Le Prevost, Patrick O'Kane and Mary Stockley. Gerard Horan last appeared at Sheffield Theatres as Clarence in RICHARD III, his other theatre credits include BLUE REMEMBERED HILLS (National Theatre). He has also featured in numerous films including MY BEAUTIFUL LAUNDRETTE and MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING. Nicholas Le Prevost's theatre credits include THE SOLDIER'S TALE (The Old Vic) and MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING (RSC). Patrick O Kane's most recent theatre credits include THE POSTMAN ALWAYS RINGS TWICE (West Yorkshire Playhouse) and SCENES FROM THE BIG PICTURE (National Theatre). Recent television work includes WAKING THE DEAD (BBC). Mary Stockley's recent theatre credits include ANYTHING GOES and LOVE'S LABOUR'S LOST (both National Theatre). Mary appeared on television in MISS MARPLE, THE BODY IN THE LIBRARY (LWT) over Christmas and other television work includes FAMILY AFFAIRS (Channel 5).
