Today, we begin a ten-part series in which we have highlighted the top ten Tony Award moments of the last forty years. Throughout the series, you will discover and enjoy clips going back as far as 1970 to COMPANY and all the way up to 2009 to Billy Elliot. Today's clip comes from the 2009 telecast.

2009 Tony Awards Opening Number

2009 was a good year for the Tony Awards if only for this truly exciting and unprecedented opening number. Sure, there are some sound issues, but the performances are truly spot-on and the simple fact that this ultimate mash-up of everything from "Luck Be A Lady Tonight" to "I'm Alive" from NEXT TO NORMAL to "Let The Sun Shine In" to "And The World Goes 'Round" from LIZA'S AT THE PALACE works as well as it does is should be enough of a curiosity factor to warrant a look from you. Throw in Bret Michaels, Dolly Parton, Aaron Tveit, Stockard Channing, Christopher Sieber, Sutton Foster, Liza Minelli and a host of others, and you have a recipe for a true Broadway bonanza unlike any other. Without giving anything away, the whole clip is worth watching if only for the last minute and a half! It must be seen to be believed!

That's all for today, be sure to stay tuned to BroadwayWorld everyday until Tony Award Sunday for all Tony Award-related news, articles, interviews and digital media. 'Til tomorrow…
