Tommy Tune to Host American Tap Dance Foundation Gala April 24

The American Tap Dance Foundation have announced that Tommy Tune will host their Spring Gala 2012 at the Peter Norton Symphony Space, Leonard Nimoy Thalia, 2537 Broadway at 95th Street, on Tuesday, April 24th at 6:30 pm.

The show will feature guest appearances by Warren Craft, Les Femmes Plus, Michela Marino-Lerman, Jason Samuels Smith, Cartier Williams and other surprise guests.

Known as one of the most prolific director/choreographers of the twentieth century, Tommy Tune has enchanted audiences over the past 50 years with his charisma, vision, and innovation. Tune has been honored with nine Tony Awards celebrating him as a performer, choreographer and director. In addition, Tune has been awarded eight Drama Desk Awards, three Astaire Awards and the Society of Directors and Choreographers’ George Abbott Award for Lifetime Achievement. Film credits include Hello Dolly, The Boy Friend, and Mimi Bluette…fiore del mio giardino. Mr. Tune celebrates his 50th years in show business with his latest work, Steps In Time, A Broadway Biography in Song and Dance. In 2009, He was designated as a Living Landmark by the New York Landmarks Conservancy. Tune is the recipient of the National Medal Of Arts, the highest honor for artistic achievement given by the President of the United States, and he has been honored with his own star on the legendary Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Choreography for the evening is being contributed by Guillem Alonso, Joshua Hilberman, Lisa Latouche, and Margaret Morrison.

There will be performances by members of the Tap City Youth Ensemble, the Tap City Junior Ensemble, and ATDF Youth Program Students

The musicians will be Robin Burdulis on percussion, Joe Fonda on bass, and Larry Ham on piano.

The "evening of Fun, Film and Fancy Footwook" will be honoring the Tap Dance Faculty of the organziation.

This benefit supports the Gregory Hines Youth Scholarship Fund. The evening begins with a reception, and there will be a silent acution and a live auction as well as the show.
