Tom Cruise on Dancing in ROCK OF AGES Movie

New Line Cinema's film version of the smash hit Broadway musical "Rock of Ages" recently finished filming under the direction of Adam Shankman (HAIRSPRAY). Tom Cruise, who will star as Stacee Jaxx in the film, recently chatted with the LA Times about putting on his dancing shoes for the film. Cruise told LAT: "I had started dancing because I was inspired by my wife. She kept saying, 'You've got to do a musical sometime. Kate's a dancer, so she would say, 'Let's go to dance class,' and she would take us and that's how I kind of came up with the idea of Les Grossman doing hip-hop. And then to take it to this level with this? It was really fun."

On director Adam Shankman, he added, "He's on fire. What he accomplished with 'Hairspray' was amazing. My daughter has seen it 15 times and our whole family has watched it over and over and it's just enormously entertaining. To be able to hold that tone throughout is really something."

Their rock ‘n' roll romance is told through the heart-pounding hits of Def Leppard, Joan Jett, Journey, Foreigner, Bon Jovi, Night Ranger, REO Speedwagon, Pat Benatar, Twisted Sister, Poison, Whitesnake, and more.

Shankman directs ROCK OF AGES from a screenplay by Chris D'Arienzo, based on his musical. The film is being produced by Matt Weaver, Scott Prisand, Carl Levin, Tobey Maguire and Jen Gibgot, with Garrett Grant, Adam Shankman, Janet Billig Rich, Hillary Weaver, Toby Emmerich, Michael Disco and Samuel J. Brown serving as executive producers.
