Friday, July 1 at 12:30 AM on Thirteen (and Monday, July 4 at 5 AM), THEATER TALK presents an encore of their special Independence Day tribute to writer PETER STONE.

The witty and outspoken librettist (who passed away in April of 2003) appeared on our program six times, and this week's show features highlights from those interviews.

They include Stone discussing "1776," his hit musical about the founding of The USA. Arthur Schlesinger Jr. wrote, "1776 probably taught more people about the men who wrote the Declaration of Independence than a generation of historians."

PETER STONE wrote the books for over 16 musicals. He also wrote many screenplays and for television. He is only writer to date to win a TONY, an OSCAR and an EMMY Award.
