The Marilyn Tapes,
Lenore Zann's critically-acclaimed portrayal of Marilyn Monroe, will be extended through July 18th at Don't Tell Mama.As described in a press statement, "Actress/writer Lenore
Zann has dazzled audiences
throughout her native Canada with her recreation of legendary screen goddess
Marilyn Monroe. The Marilyn Tapes traces the evolution of an icon, from
16-year-old Norma Jean Baker to Playboy's first centerfold to Hollywood's
most enduring celebrity, as popular in death as in her lifetime. Set in a rat-pack era jazz club, Zann's
evocative portrayal of the innocent Norma Jean Baker and her alter ego Marilyn
chronicles Monroe's meteoric rise through songs and stories. Acclaimed singer /
songwriter / pianist David Raleigh plays Billy, her musical director with
original songs by Cliff Jones, presented by ALCHIMIA Productions and LZ
Productions "Monroe,
of course, was the blonde bombshell whose combination of sensuality and
vulnerability lit up the screen in such films as The Seven Year Itch, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, Bus Stop and The Misfits. Tragically dead at the age of 36, Monroe's troubled but legendary life has inspired films, TV shows, books and even Broadway musicals (1983's Marilyn: an American Fable).
