The Kitano Jazz Club (Park Avenue at 38th St.) presents Daniel Smith's 'BASSOON AND BEYOND' jazz quartet on Thursday, June 3rd at 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. There is no cover or admission charge but a $15 food/drink minimum.

Daniel Smith has been nominated as finalist for the 2010 'Player of the Year' award by the Jazz Journalists Association. Besides Smith, the rest of the quartet for the evening includes Lafayette Harris on piano, Michael O'Brien on bass, and Vincent Ector on drums. The performance will feature selections from his new album 'Blue Bassoon' which was released January 2010.

'Blue Bassoon' covered a wide range of styles ranging from early blues to contemporary. Features 11 tracks with blues pieces by Horace Silver, Cannonball Adderley, Charlie Parker, Mercer Ellington, Joe Zawinul, Charlie Mingus, George Shearing, Wayne Shorter, Sonny Rollins, John Coltrane and Lee Morgan..... plus two bonus tracks featuring early blues pieces of Robert Johnson and B B King and showcasing Bob Dylan guitarist Larry Campbell as 'special guest artist'.
