Ghostlight Records will release its seventh Cast Recording this year with the World Premiere Recording of the highly acclaimed off-Broadway musical The Immigrant. The musical, which received rave reviews for its 2004/2005 Drama-Desk nominated New York City run, as well as raves for its out-of-town productions, will hit the stores on July 26, 2005.
The Cast Recording captures the true essence of the musical which is based on Mark Harelik's widely popular play of the same name, The Immigrant. In listening to the Cast Recording, you are treated to a wonderful story of a young Jewish immigrant who fled the pogroms of Czarist Russia in 1909 and pushed his banana cart into the tiny Baptist community of Hamilton, Texas. Given shelter by a childless older couple, he sent for his wife, raised a family, and made this town his home. It is considered a true story of parents and children, newcomers and natives, Christians and Jews, and the realization of the American Dream exemplified by the beautiful music from Steven Alper and lyrics by Sarah Knapp.
The Immigrant is being licensed by Samuel French, with multiple regional productions expected for the fall.
The Immigrant stars Jaqueline Antaramian, Walter Charles, Adam Heller and Cass Morgan. The Book was written by Mark Harelik, Music by Steven M. Alper, Lyrics by Sarah Knapp. The show was directed by Randal Myler. Musical Director and Conductor is Kimberly Grigsby. The recording was produced by Jan Folkson.
About Ghostlight Records
It is a long-time practice in the theatre that a ghost light – a floor lamp holding a single bare light bulb – be lit on stage after everyone has left for the night, so that the theatre never goes dark. In the spirit of preserving the music of the theatre by composers old and new, Ghostlight Records, created by Sh-K-Boom co-founder Kurt Deutsch, will make sure that the music will never be silent. Ghostlight Records will honor the past while shining a light toward the future. "When people asked why Sh-K-Boom, known for rock and pop recordings, chose to record the original cast album of Michel Legrand's Amour, the simple answer was that it was a great score which deserved to be preserved," said Kurt Deutsch. "There are so many theatre scores which should be recorded and the major labels just aren't interested. I realized the need for a separate imprint from SH-K-Boom to record and preserve musicals, both classics and new work, and the performances of vocalists who wouldn't be recorded elsewhere. Sh-K-Boom will stay focused on recording and encouraging more diverse musicals and supporting theatre artists that don't necessarily fit into the confines of traditional musical theatre. There will always be a crossover of audiences interested in both, but each will have its own identity."
