The Gasparilla Fringe Festival Returning to Tampa Museum of Art

By:

The Tampa Museum of Art and Creative Loafing present Gasp!: The Gasparilla Fringe Festival, a multi-disciplinary performing arts festival, on Friday, April 1, 2016 from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. at Tampa Museum of Art (120 W. Gasparilla Plaza, Tampa, FL 33602)

Back for its third year, Gasp! will be a smorgasbord of music, dance, theater, improv, video, and more, presented live by both emerging and accomplished artists. The performances will take place in and around the Museum on Friday, April 1st from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. Gasp! was established in 2014, designed to cap off Tampa's March-long celebration of the arts and takes its inspiration from fringe festivals-the edgy, innovative, multi-disciplinary performance fests popular throughout the globe, from Edinburgh to Orlando.

Creative Loafing and the Tampa Museum of Art are currently crafting a lineup of the best artists across the Tampa Bay area and are seeking submissions from local performers from a variety of disciplines. Visit cltampa.com/gasp2016 for the application and more information.

"Creative Loafing is passionately devoted to the performing arts in both its coverage and CL-sponsored events," says Editor-in-Chief David Warner of the festival, which is named after the title of a Museum publication. "The Museum is located on GASParilla Plaza and the festival is kind of the last GASP after a month of Gasparilla festivals. And since this year's edition is scheduled, aptly enough, on April Fool's Day, there's no telling how many GASP-worthy surprises we'll have in store."

About the Tampa Museum of Art
The Tampa Museum of Art opened its award-winning home in 2010 with a commitment to providing innovative public programs with a strong focus on classical, modern, and contemporary art. The Museum balances a growing collection, including one of the largest holdings of Greek and Roman antiquities in the southeastern U.S., with a dynamic annual schedule of special exhibitions. It is the region's largest museum devoted to the art of our time and has built a reputation for embracing contemporary photography and new media. Leo Villareal's Sky (Tampa), the Museum's 14,000-square-foot LED installation on its façade, has become an iconic image for Tampa and the Riverwalk. Since its founding in 1979, the Museum has been dedicated to providing quality education to students and adults, with more than half of its programs offered free of charge. The Museum is home to Sono Café, a "Slow Food Movement" café overlooking Curtis Hixon Park and the Hillsborough River, and has emerged as Tampa's premiere venue for special events.
