The Emelin Theatre is proud to announce the upcoming 2009/2010 Bluegrass, Folk and Blues series. The Bluegrass line-up continues the Emelin's 28-year tradition of presenting the very best the genre has to offer and the Folk series presents both legendary mainstays and hot up-and-comers. The new Blues series features three performances that highlight the divers range the genre has to offer.

BLUEGRASS

The Claire Lynch Band | $37
Oct 16 @ 8 pm
One of the most popular bluegrass artists to appear at the Emelin, the Claire Lynch Band is high on the genre's A-List, with musicians whose accolades include IBMA Female Vocalist of the Year and two Grammy nominations for Best Bluegrass Album (Claire); two IBMA Guitar Player of the Year awards (Jim Hurst); and two IBMA Bass Player of the Year awards (Mark Schatz). Dolly Parton credits Claire with "one of the sweetest, purest and best lead voices in the music business today."

Pine Mountain Railroad with Out to Lunch | $37

Now into their tenth year, this exciting and entertaining five piece bluegrass band is led by veteran performer Cody Shuler who has brought together the best in bluegrass vocalists and instrumentalists to form this outstanding vocal band. His leadership has seen the band return to and perfect the high-lonesome sound and place it in a contemporary setting with their 2008 bluegrass gospel album, Pickin', Praisin' & Singin', being nominated for a 2009 Dove award and receiving a rave review in Bluegrass Unlimited magazine. 25+ year stalwarts Out to Lunch open.

Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver | $37

For years, Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver have dominated the IBMA awards, winning Vocal Group of the Year from 2001-2007. Since the group's inception in 1979, Lawson and co. have become one of the defining names in Bluegrass Gospel, releasing over 40 albums including their latest in 2009, Lonely Street.

Danny Paisley & the Southern Grass | $37

A mainstay of the Emelin Bluegrass series since its inception over 25 years ago, Danny Paisley and the Southern Grass are known for playing powerful, unadorned and intense traditional bluegrass. Carrying on the tradition he helped establish with his late father, Bob, Danny continues to be one of the most powerful, emotional singers in bluegrass, and fronts an intense, driving, irresistibly rhythmic band.

Steep Canyon Rangers | $37

One of the hottest, most entertaining young bands on the bluegrass circuit, the Rangers were nominated for 2 IBMA awards in 2008 (including Album of the Year, Lovin' Pretty Women) and the 2006 IBMA Emerging Artist of the Year. The group has been regularly featured on the Grand Ole Opry, as well as major U.S. Bluegrass and Americana music festivals, and now makes their first appearance at the Emelin.

FOLK

Greg Brown | $35

Greg Brown has recorded more than a dozen albums, been nominated for multiple Grammys, and has been called "a wickedly sharp observer of the human condition" (Rolling Stone). His critically acclaimed songwriting has been has been embraced by the most talented and celebrated performers including Willie Nelson, Carlos Santana, Michael Johnson, Shawn Colvin and Mary Chapin Carpenter.

Red Molly and The Kennedys | $25

Since their inception in 2004, Red Molly has garnered a devoted fan base by having a lot of fun on stage and consistently bringing concert-goers to their feet with stunning three-part harmonies, crisp musicianship and engaging stage presence. The Kennedys (made up of the married duo of Pete and Maura Kennedy) spin their personal experiences and musical influences into acoustic-based folk, rock, country, pop and secular gospel, creating a delightful sound that's all their own.

JoNathan Edwards | $35

During his 37-year career, JoNathan Edwards has recorded 15 albums and penned such notable hits as "Shanty" and "Sunshine," one of the most recognizable folk protest songs of the early ‘70s. His natural ability to sing and compose as well as produce has garnered him a reputation as a "musician's musician" who has shared the stage with B. B. King, Emmylou Harris, Rod Stewart, Willie Nelson, The Allman Brothers, The Judds, James Taylor, Roger Miller, Mary Chapin Carpenter, The Seldom Scene and many more!

BLUES

Roomful of Blues | $45

Roomful of Blues is one of the tightest, most joyful blues ensembles in the world. With an eight-piece unit led by guitarist Chris Vachon, the band has never sounded fresher or stronger. Their winning combination of jump, swing, blues, R&B and soul remains their calling card.

Guy Davis | $25

Guy Davis is a musician, composer, actor (Robert Johnson: Trick the Devil), director and writer. But most importantly, he's a bluesman. The blues permeates every corner of Davis' creativity and his music ranges from soulful, moaning out a people's cry, to playful and bouncy as a hayride. "Like the best early bluesmen, Guy Davis is, at heart, a storyteller. A master at setting intimate, richly nuanced tales..." (Blues Review).

Toshi Reagon and BIGLovely | $40

Toshi Reagon, daughter of the renowned Bernice Johnson Reagon, is known for energetic performances and an exemplary gift for writing engaging songs that provoke listeners to think and have fun at the same time. Backed by BIGLovely, a who's-who of NYC artists, Toshi draws listeners in and sets them off in hand-raising, foot-stomping delight.
