Terms of Endearment, with Linda Gray, Headed for the Stage

According to Variety, the Oscar-winning 1983 James L. Brooks film Terms of Endearment is headed for the stage.

Terms of Endearment will be a co-production between Houston's Alley Theatre and Hartford Stage in Connecticut. The stage adaptation will star "Dallas"' Linda Gray as Aurora, the strong-willed mother played by Shirley MacLaine in the film, which also featured Debra Winger and Jack Nicholson.

After premiering in Houston in spring of 2007, Terms of Endearment will run at Hartford Stage from May 24th through June 24th. Oscar-nominee Dan Gordon (The Hurricane) is adapting the stage version from the original novel by Larry McMurtry and the screenplay by Brooks.

The tear-jerking film, which follows the relationship between Aurora Greenway and her tempermentally opposed daughter Emma, also featured Danny DeVito, Jeff Daniels and John Lithgow. In addition to its Academy Award for Best Picture, it won Oscars for MacLaine and Nicholson, and for Brooks (Adapted Screenplay and Director).

Gray, who appeared on Broadway as Mrs. Robinson in The Graduate, is best known for her work as Sue Ellen Ewing on "Dallas." Her other stage credits include The Vagina Monologues, Love Letters (with "Dallas" co-star Larry Hagman) and Agnes of God. Other film and TV credits include Reflections of a Life, "The Bold and the Beautiful," and "Melrose Place."

No othing casting has been announced for the production.
